About me and my therapy practice
I’m Melanie Rivera, a Counsellor, Integrative Psychotherapist and Wellbeing Coach, registered with the BACP.
I work with adults (18+) who may be feeling emotionally overwhelmed, stuck in self-doubt or low self-worth, or navigating difficult relationships, anxiety, difficult life experiences/trauma, or life transitions.
Many people come to therapy unsure of what they need—just knowing something doesn’t feel right. That's okay. I offer a calm, compassionate, non-judgmental space to reflect on what’s going on beneath the surface — and begin making sense of your thoughts, emotions and experiences. Together, we’ll explore what matters most to you, helping you move toward greater clarity, emotional resilience, and self-trust.
As an integrative therapist, I work intuitively and adaptively—drawing from humanistic values, body-based tools, parts work (IFS), mindfulness, and evidence-informed approaches such as EFIT, EMDR, and CBT-informed techniques.
Every person is different, so therapy is tailored to meet you and your therapeutic needs—not the other way around.
Clients often describe my approach as warm, grounded, and gently restorative—particularly helpful for those navigating emotional overload, trauma, or significant life transitions.
Practice description
My path into this work has been shaped by both personal healing and professional experience. Since the late 1990s, I’ve followed a deep interest in emotional wellbeing—starting with holistic therapies and coaching, later qualifying as a counsellor, and deepening my studies in Integrative psychotherapy approaches.
Over the years, I’ve worked across diverse wellbeing services and community settings—including Health & Social Care initiatives and contract work with the criminal justice system. These experiences have deepened my belief that therapy is not just about “fixing what’s broken”—it’s about reconnecting with your sense of safety, clarity, and inner strength.
Today, I work in private practice with adults via secure Zoom Telehealth sessions (UK-wide). I also offer a limited number of in-person appointments in the Purbeck area of Dorset.
Sessions are 1 hour long. I offer both short-term (6–12 sessions) and open-ended therapy, depending on your needs.
My first session
Choosing a therapist is a meaningful step in your healing journey, and it’s important that you feel confident in that choice. This is why I offer a free initial call—to answer any questions and help us explore what might support you best.
“My hope is that you’ll find therapy with me to be grounding, restorative, and genuinely helpful—whether you’re navigating a transition, managing trauma, or seeking greater clarity and connection in life.”
We’ll move at a pace that feels safe for you. You don’t need to have it all figured out—we begin wherever you are.
Warm Regards,
Melanie Rivera

I offer a free initial phone call appointment (up to 30 mins), bookable through my website (yourwellbeingmatters.co.uk).An initial call includes the opportunity to discuss your reasons and expectations from therapy, enabling us to discover if I am the right therapist to help you. You might have questions about the potential next steps forward relating to having some regular sessions, including what to expect from a first session.
I understand how the decision to seek therapy can feel overwhelming for some, especially if it is a new experience. Making that first step is often a difficult yet brave decision, and there may be worries about what to say when contacting a therapist.
