Practice description

Our own thoughts/feelings are unique to us - this inner world can sometimes be self-destructive; negative thoughts or self-doubt. An everyday occurrence or a rollercoaster of conflicting emotions. This may lead to anxiety/depression and/or confused feelings.

Anxiety/Stress can cause irritability and reduce our ability to cope with the pressures of life. Trauma, Bereavement, relationship issues and family issues are all experiences that can be very difficult and painful to deal with, and we can feel very alone and isolated. Perhaps there is someone to talk to, but they do not fully understand how YOU feel and the effect it may be having on you.

We all experience problems in our lives at some point, whether you may be going through a period of crisis, or perhaps you are hoping to change some self-defeating patterns of thinking and behaviour. When we are troubled we often don't know what type of help we need we just know we need help and struggle to find a way to manage our emotions. Telling someone you know (family/friends) may be difficult because it is personal and private, and they may offer their own opinion and advice, which may be not what you are wanting to hear, you may just want to let your troubles out.

Counselling offers different help; it provides a non-judgmental response, counselling encourages you to work through painful feelings, to grow in self-understanding and confidence, to explore and develop coping strategies by looking at your options.

My first session

In this session, we will discuss your needs for therapy, your expectations and goals - to ascertain whether I am suitable & competent to work with you, and you can then decide if what I offer meets your need.

I will ask questions around your reasons for coming to counselling and what you hope to achieve, along with some family history, relationships and your present position. We can also look at your expectations in terms of short-term time limited work or long-term therapy.

The choice is ultimately yours. It is important for you to find a counsellor you feel comfortable to work with and for you to decide if you feel comfortable working with me. There is no obligation to come to further sessions. I feel it is helpful to review our work together after 3 or 6 sessions – to evaluate where you are at that particular time, and whether further sessions are needed, or work towards an ending, if appropriate. The initial assessment appointment will take around 45 minutes.
