About me and my therapy practice
I am qualified at a Diploma level and a Registered Member of the BACP, as an Integrative Counsellor and Psychotherapist in private practice since 2008.
I am also in current accredited training as a Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist (CBT) at a Master's of Science Level since 2022.
As a highly experienced psychotherapist, I have developed my private practice both in Manchester and Calderdale alike and have specialised to integrate the model of therapy to fit the person. I work with and effectively evidence the successes of my clients living the life they want. I have dedicated my life to learning ways to support people to reduce their distress and confidence to end their suffering.
I have also developed and facilitated group sessions for adults in the Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) approach and Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy, within various charity services across the North West.
As a specialist in the areas of substance misuse and recovery, with over 14 years of direct experience within the charity sector, I have supported both adults and young people to reach their recovery goals.
I currently offer treatment for people affected by chronic health conditions and carers and family members affected by a loved one's poor health as well as individuals who are affected by long-term diagnoses of anxiety and depression within a Calderdale family and children's service.
As part of my psychotherapist role, I also hold a small practice where I can see clients, either face-to-face or online depending on their ability to access the sessions.
Kind and patient
Effective and supportive of change
Reliable and transparent
As an Integrative counsellor and psychotherapist since 2008, I have been able to draw from a holistic approach to therapy that combines ideas and techniques from different therapeutic schools of thought, depending on the unique needs of my clients.
I have chosen to specialise within my current post-qualifying training in cognitive behavioral psychotherapy, as this provides the opportunity to form a sense of structure within the sessions and my client has reported this has helped them immensely to make sense of their thoughts, feelings, and behaviours, in order to be able to move forward and make personal changes.
All treatment sessions and is informed by the NICE guidelines for the treatment of depression and anxiety disorders. I am able to offer treatment in line with this recommendation, for everyone with a recorded diagnosis of social phobia, specific phobia, agoraphobia, health anxiety, OCD, GAD, and PTSD.
My work is trauma-informed, which essentially means I am able to support my clients by following principles such as: understanding how trauma can affect people, including how mental health problems can be reactions to trauma. By asking sensitively about past trauma, and offering appropriate support if you choose to disclose it.
My first session
The initial session is characterised by compassion and an opportunity to be seen and your story heard.
I offer the space to discover if this therapy approach and if our relationship can grow and meet your expectations and goals.
You have the courage to get so far, so the initial session of therapy may offer you the first step towards healing, and knowing this is possible may even improve your well-being. I would hope that you leave the session learning more about yourself and the treatment.
We will complete the initial contracts and measurement forms and I will begin taking some information about your existing problems. I will also provide you with some literature /links with information on the themes of the session.
