About me and my therapy practice
I work with people from all backgrounds, from adolescents through to older adults. Therapy does not work in a “one size fits all” manner, and together with my clients I establish a pattern of working which suits their needs. I have an integrative qualification which means I have learned a variety of ways to help whoever sits down and talks with me. The counselling will be about finding what works for the client, working out what it is they need, and exploring it together at their own pace whilst also being encouraged to challenge themselves.
Is counselling right for me? What if I don't like you?
To even be considering counselling tells me you have a need to talk to someone. I believe I can be that person. However, I will be completely honest about my ability to help you. I believe counselling can help most people, if not everyone, to deal with whatever it is that's causing them to seek help. Once you've made contact (email or telephone) we can have a relaxed initial session and you can see for yourself what it's like and whether we can continue to work together. After that we'll work out the details but you don't need to consider that at the moment. The most important thing is taking one step at a time.
There is no obligation to return to counselling if it isn't right. There is no contract that says the client needs to stay for a certain amount of time. If the client wants it to end, then that's what is right for the client. Ideally, however, we could work through whatever the issue is. And, if we've been working together for a little while then it would be great to have an ending. Otherwise, it really is all up to the client. There's no pressure to do anything that doesn't feel right. The client needs to find what works and go at it at their own pace. No pressure.
