About me and my therapy practice

Hi, I am Deb, an Integrative Psychotherapeutic Counsellor working in a small private practice in Northampton. I offer short, or long-term counselling to individual adults and young people.  Integrative means that I am qualified to employ techniques from a number of different approaches, enabling me to personalise your therapy to meet your own individual needs.

I will work with you to support you; by really listening to you, hearing what you have to say, and responding with warmth and empathy.

My therapy room is a safe, confidential & non-judgemental space where I can help you explore and begin to understand difficult and overwhelming issues, which may be making coping with everyday life a challenge. I believe that you are the expert on your own life, but I understand that you may be struggling to know the best way forward for you at the moment. We will work together to help you gain insight, and bring about the necessary change required to improve your mental & emotional wellbeing.

I have worked in public service within the mental health and safeguarding arenas for many years; building and nurturing a genuine fascination for people and their individual stories, and working to help people rebuild their lives after experiencing major life trauma. I have specialised in working with victims of crime. In particular, I have significant experience of working with survivors of sexual violence and stalking. As a volunteer Counsellor for Rape Crisis, I work with these survivors for both short, and long-term therapy.

Additionally, within my 18-year career with the Police Service I developed a profound understanding of the many sources of trauma emergency services personnel encounter every day. This experience has translated into a passion for now working individually with emergency services, medical or armed forces personnel to help them process, and move on from their distress.

Practice description

My therapy room is based in a small private practice in central Northampton, within walking distance of bus and train stations, and with adjacent on-street car parking.

I am currently working face-to-face, and I also work online and via telephone, which enables me to offer appointments to clients further afield, or who find it difficult to attend the practice.

All sessions are 50 minutes duration.

The counselling is confidential; it is a safe space where you can share the information you feel comfortable sharing. This initial session is a chance for you to decide whether I feel like the right person for you to work with in this way.
