About me and my therapy practice

My name is Mide (pronounced Mee-da) Beaumont. I am an experienced counsellor and a registered member of the BACP. I hold a Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling which is accredited by the BACP.

Alongside my private practice I am a senior counsellor in a non-profit making counselling service working with men and women of all ages experiencing a wide variety of issues and concerns.

Before becoming a counsellor I worked in public and private sector corporate environments. I bring an understanding of the challenges that can arise at work and the pressures of trying to maintain a healthy balance between the demands of work and other responsibilities as part of a healthy and fulfilled life.

As a counsellor I am committed to providing my clients with the opportunity to talk about their experiences and feelings. If you decide to work with me, I will give you a safe, compassionate and confidential space to feel heard and understood.

As we work together, I will use my training, skills and experience to help you describe your thoughts and feelings. Respecting you and your experiences, I will encourage and support you to look at your personal difficulties from different angles. I will support you as you explore how your early experiences might be impacting life and relationships today. This will help you get a better understanding about your current situation.

I will work with you as you identify and implement changes that feel possible to make. I believe, and have seen in my practice, that this is the first and vital step to making long lasting positive change, helping to live a life that feels more fulfilled.

Practice description

There are times in our lives when things just don’t feel right and we may not know why. We might be struggling to work out who we are and what we want or feeling dissatisfied and stuck.

Sometimes we find it hard to cope with life’s challenges – feeling stressed, unfulfilled or lonely. At other times we can be deeply affected by specific events and loss – perhaps the death of a loved one, relationship breakdown, redundancy or illness.

Life’s events and what we experience can impact us in many ways. This can affect our relationships and how we deal with challenges or lead to behaviour that we’re neither happy nor comfortable with. It can bring on a mix of painful feelings, including anger, sadness, vulnerability, guilt and shame – sometimes causing anxiety and depression.

Having a counsellor to turn to can help.  Deciding to start counselling may feel like a significant step. You may find it helpful to have a short conversation with me to find out more. I would be very happy to talk with you by telephone and there is no charge for this and no obligation to proceed any further after we speak.

I have worked with people of all ages on wide ranging concerns - see below.  I can work with and support you on these and other issues and concerns.

It is important that you feel able to trust me as your counsellor. I am fully committed to working confidentially and ethically with my clients and I work in accordance with the BACP’s Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions.

I apply the values and principles of the Framework in all aspects of my work, including my counselling sessions with clients, how I store and manage information and in my communications by email and phone. I am required by law to comply with the requirements of the UK General Data Protection Regulation under the Data Protection Act 2018. I am registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (reference no: ZB294094).

My first session

If you are interested in starting counselling we will have one or more introductory meetings, at a mutually convenient time, to talk about the issues that have brought you to seek counselling. Then you can decide if you feel comfortable working with me and I can assess whether I can be helpful to you. There is no obligation to proceed beyond this point.

If we agree to proceed, I offer open-ended counselling where we would meet for 50 minute sessions on the same day and time every week. I also offer time-limited counselling (6, 8 or 12 sessions) for people who wish to focus on and explore a specific issue.

My fee for introductory meetings and counselling sessions is £50.00.
