About me and my therapy practice
Thinking about therapy, taking that first step of looking at my details might have taken a lot of courage. Perhaps you've been wondering about what therapy can offer you.
Counselling provides the opportunity to think through the things that are causing distress, with an impartial, trained professional uninvolved in any other area of your life.
As a counsellor I do not give advice, as that would mean imposing my values on you. Instead, in a calm setting uninterrupted by the usual distractions of modern life, the emphasis is on confidentiality, support and understanding. I can help identify links between relationships and issues in your past, and your present-day ways of relating to others.
Awareness of these connections offers you the freedom to choose whether and how to change old patterns of behaviour.
I'm a psychodynamic counsellor who trained at Oxford University, with 20+ years of experience. I have worked in a university setting with young adults, and privately with older adults.
I offer long-term or short-term work, in person at £62, or via Zoom at £65 per session.
Practice description
People come to counselling for a variety of reasons: with relationship difficulties, with anxiety or depression, after loss or bereavement, or through an undefined sense of unhappiness with life and a wish to change.
I listen non-judgementally to any issues you want to discuss and together we think about how you deal with life.
Counselling can help in many ways including alleviating anxiety, coming to terms with difficulties or accepting the past, enabling you to move on and live life more freely.
My first session
I've had my Covid vaccinations, and offer face-to-face appointments for clients who are also vaccine-protected.
Our first session together will be 80 minutes (@£80), to give us the opportunity to explore whether we can work together, and before the end we'll discuss whether we both agree to continue. This session is a time to ask questions you may have about me or therapy, about what you hope for from the work, and about any worries you may have about engaging in therapy.
If we decide to proceed I will provide you with a contract and my GDPR statement covering all aspects of data protection.
