About me and my therapy practice
Working through life's challenges together...
Hello, my name is Melissa. You’ve taken the first step by looking for support. I know that reaching out to a therapist can be a daunting process, but I am here to take it at your pace.
In our work together, I strive to help you feel heard and reach any goals you may have in a safe, non-judgmental and supportive space. I view therapy as a collaborative effort, in which we work together to focus on ways to help you move forward. Therapy is a journey that helps you make sense of what is going on and find a way forward. When we make sense of our situation, past and self, it helps us to better tackle the issues and difficulties we face. I would describe my style as warm and open, and I consider establishing rapport and building trust as the foundation of our work together.
As an integrative psychotherapist, I believe that our early life experiences affect our behaviour and personality in adulthood. Our unmet needs can influence our decisions in adulthood, where we can unknowingly (unconsciously) try to recreate our experience of childhood by doing what feels ‘safe’ (familiar). However, this can mean getting stuck in ways that may no longer work. Therapy can help you become more aware of yourself and find new ways of coping. My role as your therapist is to take therapy at your pace, explore your past, and offer you new coping strategies, understanding, gentle challenge and a safe, non-judgmental, supportive space.
I'd like to share with you one of my favourite quotes. I believe healing comes when we share our story with someone who is understanding, empathetic and does not judge:
“If we can share our story with someone who responds with empathy and understanding, shame can’t survive.” - Brené Brown
It takes courage to reach out for support. If you are ready to take that step, I am here to support you. Please reach out via phone 07759714715 or email melissa@relationalcounselling.co.uk
Together we can find a way forward.
