About me and my therapy practice

Hello, my name is Melissa. I am a fully qualified counsellor, trained in Integrative Counselling. Integrative counselling incorporates various theoretical approaches, techniques & tools.

The best way I can describe how I work is by listening to what issues you have and how you currently cope. I provide a non-judgmental, safe space, and believe this gives you the opportunity to explore your issues in depth and allow you to heal. This may involve looking at your past, to bring an understanding of the present. We can also look at practical options, such as coping strategies.

Together, we can make change happen.

If we can share our story with someone who responds with empathy and understanding, shame can’t survive.” - Brené Brown

Practice description

I collaborate with another counsellor, at Relational Counselling, together we offer a range of services.

I currently work with young people & adults, and offer online (Zoom/Teams) or telephone sessions.

My first session

Your first session/assessment lasts 1 hour (sessions after will be 50 minutes). This will be more directive than usual, as part of routine practice we will discuss our working agreement, go through some of your details, I will also ask you some questions to understand more about your needs and going through documentation (GDPR, Agreement, and a series of questions about your mood will sent to you before your session and these can be discussed within the first session).

It is important that you find someone who you feel comfortable with, which is why at your first session you will have the opportunity to ask me any questions and share your expectations for both your sessions and myself. This session is about getting to know each other, for me to find more about you and your needs and to share how I work. There will be time in the assessment for you to speak openly about the issues you are facing.
