About me and my therapy practice

You may have an idea of what has brought you to therapy, or you may feel confused and overwhelmed. Perhaps you would like change in your life, or maybe you want to find acceptance for what you cannot change. After an initial discussion, we would tailor an approach to suit you as an individual. I believe that what works in therapy is a trusting relationship and I offer a professional and confidential space for this to develop. I’m Tom and I currently provide specialised 1:1 therapy both privately and at the Priory Hospital North London, for anxiety, depression, anger management, borderline personality disorder, and addiction, for young people and adults. My approach to therapy is integrative, which allows me to draw from a range of skills depending on your needs. I have additional training in Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT). The main goals of DBT are to find healthy ways to manage emotions and improve relationships with others. My training was provided by the British Isles DBT training team who are the leaders in DBT training within the UK.

Practice description

My overall style is friendly, empathic, and down to earth. I specialise in working with intense emotions. If you are experiencing difficulty with anger, fear, sadness, guilt, etc., we work together to develop techniques to balance these feelings. This sometimes involves alternative ways of thinking, behaving, or learning skills to cope, such as mindfulness or self compassion. If you think that you have addictive behaviours - either alcohol/drugs or any other pattern of problematic behaviour - I would offer you an individual service depending on your needs. I have extensive experience working in a treatment centre for addiction and am passionate about offering a non-judgemental and flexible approach. I’m also a COSRT registered sex and relationship student therapist, developing skills to work with sexual difficulties and relationship problems, and working towards a diploma with the Contemporary Institute of Clinical Sexology.

My first session

I appreciate that finding the right therapist can be challenging. I offer a free 15 minute phone or zoom consultation to discuss if we can work together, and if my skills are a suitable fit. During the first session, we would discuss how the process works, what your expectations are, and eventually establish your goals and how best to proceed. I offer both long and short term therapy, which is usually weekly. I can offer both online therapy via zoom, or face to face sessions following social distancing guidelines.
