About me and my therapy practice

Hi, I am Christine Cheng. I am a private practice counselor. I was trained both for individual counseling and systemic counseling for relationships, such as family relationships, pre-marital counseling, and marriage counseling. I work in online counseling as there are needs for counseling from different areas in the UK or globally. I am an eclectic counselor. We are unique human beings, including our feelings, emotions, thoughts, bodily senses, and insights. Life is a journey in that we may have a lot of ups and downs, high or low, joyful moments and sadness, health and sickness, birth and death, etc. We would face different kinds of troubles, like in our relationships with others, careers, families, or even the purpose of our lives. My approach is integrated with person-centered therapy, psychodynamic therapy, existential therapy, solution-focus therapy, and cognitive behavior therapy to help the clients to go through the process.

I could provide integrative counseling therapy with theology for Christians who want to work on this. Moreover, recently more Hong Kong immigrants may have experienced difficulties adapting to cultural differences, finding new identities, and coping with stress in their daily lives in the UK. I could help them to go through these difficulties in their first language.

Counseling sessions are open-ended regarded the status of the clients. The first review will be done after the first six sessions to let them know their situations and discuss how further counseling sessions may go on.

Practice description

Since I use talk therapy in my counseling practice, I will facilitate clients to tell me their problems, feelings, and thoughts even though clients may find it hard to express themselves. Clients do not need to prepare anything before the counseling sessions. The presenting issue will be explored with the clients to create more space for them to process during the counseling sessions. The general counseling goal is to build up the strengths of the clients in their daily lives, find the way out of difficulties and bring hope and healthy life.

On the other hand, breathing and relaxation exercises would be used for session intake and coping with stress and anxiety. I will use writing, drawing, or role-play to help clients to express themselves in processing their emotions and sufferings.

Furthermore, clients do not need to do a lot of assessments or tests during the sessions. They may be suggested to do some tests if these are relevant and useful to the case. I am also the partitioner for these tests. For example, TJTA (Tylor-Johnson-Temperament-Analysis) will be introduced to clients for relationship counseling, like pre-marital counseling and marriage counseling. DSI (Differentiation of Self Inventory) may be used for individual self-development exploration. Some of these tests may include extra charges.

My first session

My first session is a free-of-charge phone intake session which usually takes about 30mins. Clients will be asked about their inquiries and the problem trouble with. Besides, it also allows me to prepare some administrative documents of the counseling progress for the clients, such as counseling contracts and payment methods. Charges and frequency will be confirmed for the therapy. Clients will be asked to fill in a personal information form and sign the contract and an intake form. All these documents are used to protect and govern counseling therapy under professional ethics. These documents will be communicated by email before the next session starts.
