About me and my therapy practice

Is negative thinking causing you symptoms of anxiety?

Is depression making it harder to motivate yourself?

Is low self-esteem preventing you from finding your authentic self?

In times of emotional challenge we are more likely to engage with unhelpful habits that are not beneficial to our mental health. You may not be aware of this and by exploring what is going on for you, we can focus on what lies beneath feelings of anxiety and/or depression.

When you feel vulnerable, you may unconsciously protect yourself, introducing avoidance and isolation, coping strategies  that are not helpful to you now. By allowing vulnerability in, I will show you how to invite compassion and self-care into your life. As you become closer to your authentic self, your worldview  will become easier to navigate.

As humans, we love clarity and certainty, but life can sometimes be chaotic and unpredictable. On one hand black and white thinking sounds beautifully simplistic, it is often the chaos, complexity and colour that brings the beauty, peace and understanding. It is a challenging process but you don’t have to go at it alone.

The foundation of my practice is built on empathy, trust and authenticity. I always want my clients to have a unique experience, where perhaps for the first time they are heard and understood without judgement. One of the most rewarding parts of my work is when I have a real breakthrough with a client who recognises that negative feelings and behaviours no longer hold a place in their lives. I am deeply committed to enabling people to find their inner voice and go with them on a journey towards a brighter path.

By sharing your story and uncovering repressed emotions, I will help you to explore healthier ways of being. You are unique and there is no 'one size fits all' approach.

My aim is to provide a counselling experience that works for you.

Practice description

My work focuses mainly on anxiety and depression which can be symptomatic of life changing events such as grief and loss, abuse, relationship issues and many more. These events can manifest in symptoms such as low self-esteem and stress to name a few.

I work with particular models that both underpin my practice and support my clients:

A) Person-centred therapy built on empathy and genuineness

B) Psychodynamic theory:

i. Namely Attachment Theory which focuses on the attachment bond between mother and child in formative years. The quality of this relationship sets a template for our emotional wellbeing during adolescence and adulthood.

ii. Transactional Analysis which focuses on our learned behaviour around communication, helping us to understand why we think, act and feel the way we do.

Using these theories, my clients’ journey involves an appreciation as to how we as humans work to understand ourselves, our relationships and our way of being in the world. Each therapeutic relationship is unique and there is no ‘one size fits all’ approach.

My first session

If you connect with my website or would perhaps like to find out more, please  book a free  telephone conversation to ask any questions and establish what you can expect from our working together.

The next step is an initial one hour assessment providing you with a confidential, safe space for you to share a little more deeply what brings you to counselling now.   This session enables you to experience our therapeutic relationship and it is important that you feel comfortable, understood empathetically, that you leave our session, positive that you have found a therapist who you feel you can open up to.
