About me and my therapy practice

Hello and a warm welcome to you. I'm Kim, and I work online or face-to-face in central Brighton. I offer a space where you can pause and reflect on what matters to you, without fear of judgement or the need to be anything other than you are. You may wish to focus on a particular issue, such as anxiety, low self-esteem, intrusive thoughts, grief or relationship difficulties – or you may want to undergo a more general exploration of your inner world and the way you are living.

I have a deep respect for the complexity and unique experience of each person who comes to see me. My aim is to offer a collaborative relationship within which we can explore whatever you bring, at a pace that feels right for you. I always work in a trauma-informed way.

Counselling is a fluid and lively process that can facilitate self-awareness and lasting change. If you can gain clarity about your experience of the world, this can help you come to terms with pain and difficulty, and to see where you may be making choices that are rooted in past strategies which no longer serve you. Counselling can also encourage a greater sense of freedom about who you are, and how you might live – in the now and in the future.

Practice description

Sessions are held face-to-face in a calm and welcoming space in central Brighton, or online via Zoom. I offer short-term therapy (6 or 8 sessions) or open-ended, long-term therapy.

I am a qualified humanistic psychotherapeutic counsellor. I also have specialist training in bereavement and loss, and also work with miscarriage and baby loss. I am a long-time practitioner of yoga and meditation which I believe brings steadiness and compassion to my work. I am happy to share mindfulness and self-compassion techniques with clients who would like to explore this way of working and being.

My first session

You can arrange a free phone call so that you can get a sense of me and decide whether to book an initial session - just send me a message and we can find a time that suits.

The first session is offered at a reduced rate of £30 and lasts 50 minutes. We can meet face-to-face or via Zoom. This session gives us the chance to get to know each other a little, and for you to ask any questions you may have. It will be a gentle exploration of what brings you to counselling and what you hope to gain from it.

Feel free to get in touch with me - I look forward to hearing from you.

About me and my therapy practice

Hello and a warm welcome to you. Whatever has brought you to therapy, I offer a safe and compassionate space where you can  find support, without fear of judgement or the need to be anything other than you are.  You may be experiencing a specific difficulty such as anxiety or stress, depression, intrusive thoughts, anger, relationship problems or bereavement - or perhaps you want to undergo a more general exploration of your inner world and the way you are living. We all need support sometimes, and I will help you to navigate whatever is going on for you right now.

I welcome those who are dealing with the after-effects of trauma and abuse, and work from a trauma-informed perspective that is rooted in kindness and respect.

Practice description

First and foremost, therapy is a space where you can bring your experiences, thoughts, feelings and concerns, whatever they may be. Often people may come to therapy for a particular reason or difficulty, but our sessions can encompass all the ways you are experiencing life. That can often mean celebrating the good things and wishes for the future, as well as gaining deeper understanding of the things you struggle with.

I honour the complexity and unique experience of each person who comes to see me. My aim is to offer a collaborative relationship within which we can explore whatever you bring, at a pace that feels right for you.

I am a qualified humanistic psychotherapeutic therapist (PGDip) and draw on existential, experiential and person-centred approaches. I have an interest in the impact of trauma and difficulty on the body, and some clients may like to encompass gentle somatic work into sessions. I have been a practitioner of mindfulness meditation for more than 20 years, and am happy to share mindfulness techniques with those who are interested in working in this way.

I have specialist training in bereavement and volunteered for Cruse for several years. I also support people experiencing the complex feelings that can arise from cancer or other illness (anticipatory grief), miscarriage or baby loss, and other forms of ending including divorce, retirement or major life transitions.

Counselling is a relationship between two human beings, so rather than having a set way of working, I adapt to each person who comes to see me. Often, people just want to be heard. Counselling can be profoundly different to talking to friends or family, and there is never any pressure for you to be anything other than you are.

My first session

It's important to find someone who you feel comfortable sharing your story, thoughts and feelings with. You are welcome to contact me for a free 20-minute call. This is a good way for you to get a sense of how it might be to work with me, or to ask any questions you might have about the way I work or counselling in general.

Alternatively, we can meet for an initial 50-minute session at the reduced fee of £30 (subsequent sessions are £60). This can be face-to-face in comfortable rooms in central Brighton, or by Zoom. This session is an opportunity for you to share what is happening for you right now, and I will ask you some gentle questions to help me understand what is going on for you, and why you are seeking counselling. Many people feel anxious when starting counselling, and I'll do my best to help you feel at ease.

There is no obligation to continue sessions with me after either a phone call or initial session. I am always happy to recommend other practitioners if our availability doesn't match, or if you or I feel that another therapist might serve your needs better.

I respond to all enquiries – so if you don't hear from me within a day or two, please check your spam folder.
