About me and my therapy practice
Do you feel overwhelmed by your emotions? Is anxiety adversely affecting your day-to-day life? Has life lost it’s meaning for you, making it hard for you to find energy or enthusiasm for anything?
It can be difficult to imagine things can be different but therapy can make change possible.
Therapy can not only provide relief from distressing symptoms, but can also help you live at your highest level of capacity – free to feel fully alive and to thrive in all areas of your life.
I am a UKCP accredited and BACP registered psychotherapist, working with adults online and face to face in Bath. I specialise in an approach called ISTDP (Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy) which has been shown in scientific studies to be effective with a wide range of psychological problems including anxiety, panic attacks, OCD, personality disorders, depression, relationship difficulties, self-defeating and self-destructive patterns of behaviour and unexplained medical symptoms. I work to cultivate an atmosphere of courage, honesty and openness.
Practice description
I first qualified as a psychosynthesis psychotherapist. Now I practice primarily using an approach called Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP).
ISTDP is very rigorous and focussed, and attempts to precisely address the key to change and healing. Holding the emotional problems you bring as the focus, we will work together on the way in which these problems occur in the moment in the therapy room or in your life outside therapy, helping us both to see the habits and patterns of behaviour that give rise to those problems. This involves making observations and encouraging self-observation of both what occurs in your mind and body, and also between us. There is a strong focus on anxiety regulation and on tackling the internal obstacles that prevent progress and healing.
Therapy isn’t something that is done to you but is a process that demands hard work and commitment from both the client and the therapist. The ISTDP therapist is highly engaged in the process and will provide continual feedback to the client.
I hold a postgraduate diploma in psychosynthesis psychotherapy, an MA in psychology applied to counselling and psychotherapy, a postgraduate diploma in psychotherapeutic counselling and a postgraduate diploma in counselling.
I am highly committed to continuing professional development. I have studied ISTDP and other approaches with a number of highly respected teachers including Jon Frederickson, Lisa Bendzsa, ISTDP-UK and others and continue to do so.
Please feel free to explore my website and/or contact me if you would like to ask me anything or explore working together.
My first session
What next?
Please feel free to contact me to discuss your circumstances. I offer a free short online video meeting where you can ask any questions and get a feel for me and whether you would like to go ahead and book a full consultation.
If we decide to work together, sessions are held either weekly or fortnightly, on an open-ended basis or for a limited time period.
In the first session we will together get a very real sense of what the underlying cause of your problems are and determine whether this form of therapy is going to be helpful to you.
