About me and my therapy practice
Do you feel overwhelmed by your emotions, or maybe anxiety is adversely effecting your day to day life? Perhaps you find the reality of parenting much harder and more frustrating than you envisaged?
It can be hard to imagine things can be different, but therapy can help people find a sense of peace and grow more comfortable with their emotional world.
I am a psychotherapist working online and face to face in Bath. I am BACP registered and UKCP accredited and have seven years’ experience as a counsellor and psychotherapist working with a spectrum of life issues including;
• Problems with relationships
• Issues around parenting
• Being stuck in cycles of compulsive or sabotaging behaviour
• Lack of a sense of meaning or purpose
With my approach to therapy, I can help you to:
• Explore the source of your sense of overwhelm and anxiety, build a strong connection to your internal world and discover the resources you need to move forward
• Feel more grounded and less like your emotions are ruling you, using a range of approaches tailored to you, including mindfulness, psychodynamic and somatic work
• Be more confident in your choices and clearer in your decision making by reconnecting to your deep self and discovering a sense of meaning and purpose
• Feel calmer and less stressed as a parent by exploring your behaviour patterns and examining your own childhood
I offer an integrative approach to therapy, meaning that I draw on a variety of techniques and therapeutic interventions that I tailor to your individual needs. My approach is informed by psychosynthesis, ISTDP, attachment-based and somatic psychotherapy.
The foundation of my approach is in psychosynthesisis. While acknowledging the pain and difficulties you experience, I hold that something is seeking expression through the problems you bring. What troubles you will become the working material for realising a sense of harmony and fulfilment. Psychosynthesis recognises that the essence of a person is always alive and intact and can be found even in the depths of suffering.
Increasingly my approach is informed by ISTDP. ISTDP stands for Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy. It is an experiential methodology, which means the primary focus is on all that is being experienced by client/patient in body and mind, as it occurs in the moment. This means the therapist is active in making observations and encouraging self-observation. ISTDP has been formulated to accelerate the process of therapy. There is a strong focus on anxiety regulation and on tackling the internal obstacles that prevent progress and healing.
My first session
Please feel free to contact me to discuss your circumstances. You can also find more information on my website. I offer a free short online video consultation to discuss what emotional problem you would like help with in therapy. This allows you to see how I work and gives me a chance to see whether I feel I can help you. We can then arrange an initial consultation. If we decide to work together, sessions would usually be held weekly, either on an open ended basis or for a limited time period.
