About me and my therapy practice
I trained with Matrix School of Counselling and Psychotherapy, although I am integrative which means I work with a variety of methods to assist clients I lean towards a humanistic/Psychodynamic approach when working with clients. I like to explore relationships, childhood experiences and working in the moment to create an understanding of a clients current life position.
I believe, to be open and honest with a client, aids working through problems and difficulties a person may be experiencing in life. Typically the first few sessions would be looking at what goals you would like to set, getting to know each other and exploring a way to work together.
It is important to me to ensure that you feel comfortable and you are able to connect with myself, the room and the encompassing environment around us. It is important to work through any questions you may have or anything within the room that feels difficult for you or any challenges you are facing.
The ethical framework that I hold in mind throughout my work as a counsellor are; to do good, to not cause harm, to treat clients equally and fairly, honour people's right to make their own decisions and for professionals to honour the trust placed in them by the client and organisation.
I also work within the framework of the BACP and the UKCP's ethical principles.
To work in an anti-oppressive way for me is to value relationships and approach my clients with respect and kindness and challenge stereotypical views. It is important to recognise differences between myself and the client and bring them into the relationship to enable any pre-conceived judgements about the counselling process to be worked through.
I pay close attention to my own personal and professional development and ensure that I commit to renewing my knowledge and skills.
