About me and my therapy practice

  • You don't have to do it alone

Have you been feeling down?

Lost?

Stressed?

Having panic attacks?

Questioning what is ‘wrong’ with you?

Your feelings are potentially being heightened in the current unprecedented times we find ourselves.

It is not always possible to turn to family or friends for support, where sometimes our difficulties involve these very people.

I am here and ready to help you.

A little about me

I am a qualified psychotherapeutic counsellor. I run my own private counselling practice. I have a psychology degree and am a qualified social worker, having worked in the social care field for several years.

I am a registered member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP) and am a practitioner member of the United Kingdom Association of Transactional Analysis (UKATA), and as such am bound by their ethical frameworks for good practice.

A little about the way I work

I work with adults on a one to one basis, offering short-term counselling to long-term psychotherapeutic work. Counselling tends to be a shorter-term process that is focused on problem-solving around a specific issue. Psychotherapeutic work is a longer-term process, similar to separating out the ingredients in a  soup.

I commonly work with symptoms of depression, anxiety, difficulties within relationships, loss, trauma, identity and cultural issues, and life transitions.

Our work will be a dynamic process, created between the two of us. Generally speaking, my approach is to play an active part; where I ask questions, reflect, share theory and challenge where relevant. You will also be required to be active in your change process.

My first session

Reaching out can feel daunting. As someone who has experienced personal therapy, I know the feeling well.

I presently offer a free half hour mutual assessment session over the telephone. This is to both enable me to get a summary of your current circumstances and needs, and for you to get a sense of whether I am the sort of person you want to work with.

During the telephone consultation, I I will ask you questions, including;

-What has led you to making contact with me?

-What your present health is like, e.g. have experienced any recent changes to your sleep or appetite?

-What is it you want to get out of the experience?

This is also a chance for you to ask me anything you need to, such about the approach I use, and/or the therapy experience.

There are a few possible outcomes after the consultation; either we decide we are not well suited to work together and for you to try someone else, or we continue and you book a session with me.

My fees are £40 for a 1 hour session (whether via telephone, online or in-person).

**In the current global circumstances, I am offering online and telephone sessions only.

If you do not consider yourself tech 'savvy', be assured the platform I use to do online work is easy to use and I can offer support in navigating it.

I plan on resuming in-person work at the centre once I deem it is sufficiently safe to do so**
