About me and my therapy practice

JUST BETWEEN US-Joanne Slack

Hi I'm Jo, and I am a BACP registered qualified counsellor offering an integrative, humanistic person-centred approach, whist incorporating mindfulness and coaching strategies to get the most from our sessions.

The above will be tailored specifically to your needs as everyone is individual, what works for one client might not work for another.

I find that I am a natural empathic person who can easily put myself in your frame of reference, with a non- judgemental outlook on our time spent with each other.

Before counselling I worked in educational settings for 15 years and the experience gained here made me want to further myself in a counselling role.I now work as a school counsellor along with running my private practice for which I have a DBS to enable me to do so.

I did my counselling placement at MIND, where I worked with a diverse set of clients that ranged from late teens, adults and elders, all with varied issues.

I have gained lots of experience dealing with self- harm, friendship/family dynamics, stress, anxiety, self-esteem and confidence during my counselling practice. I am fully insured and have regular supervision to make sure I am fit for practice & able to facilitate my clients.

I have been lucky in life to be able to facilitate others in many walks of life by using my counselling skills and hope to do the same with you at "Just Between Us".

Practice description

I can provide a safe confidential place for you to express your needs without interrupting your flow and talking about myself, which I know can happen lots in life when discussing our worries with others.

The sessions can help you become clearer about your problems through exploration while finding solutions to help you grow and manage them more effectively, incorporating the therapeutic core conditions of counselling.

I run my practice by reflecting "what would I want from therapy" and apply this to yours. With this in mind I provide assessable parking where I come out to meet you at every session, a heated room and nice inviting space to tell your story, flexible hours to suit busy lives with a mix of platforms (remote/ face to face) to switch when need be. There is also great public transport links that are 5 min away.

I offer a free 15/30 min telephone consultation for us to engage and see if we can work together, giving you chance to ask any questions regarding the sessions.

I believe that counselling should be accessible to all so therefore offer a reduced rate to Students and Senior citizens.

My first session

Our first session will comprise of building the foundations of the relationship, agreement of a contract about how we will work together and what can be expected from both parties. Expectations about what your needs are from the counselling sessions along with strategies and goals for the future.

The sessions usually last 50 min and are usually on a weekly basis although this can be flexible. I can provide face to face counselling, telephone or online.

You will lead the sessions and can bring whatever you wish to, I won't pressure to explore or reflect on something you don't want to. I believe that you are the answer to your issues, and I will help provide the tools needed for you to flourish in life.
