About me and my therapy practice
My name is Diego Avila and I hold a Diploma in Integrative Counselling. I am also a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) currently working towards accreditation, and fully uphold their Ethical Framework.
My integrative counselling model uses elements of Psychodynamic as well as Humanistic theory models in order to facilitate the work we do in the therapy room. In addition, I may also use elements from other approaches such as Attachment Theory, Transactional Analysis and Jungian symbolism and dream exploration.
My aim is to provide you with a safe and contained space for you to talk, share and explore your feelings, in your own time and at your own pace. Within our therapeutic relationship I will aim to facilitate a space for self-growth and exploring your own personality, how you relate to others and to yourself.
The first session will be an assessment to explore what you feel you need help with and how we can work together. I will ask you to complete a brief questionnaire beforehand, which will give us a clearer picture of your presenting issues.
I am also a Counselling Tutor at Richmond and Hillcroft Adult Community College (RAHCC), where I teach Introduction to Counselling and Communications Skills as well as facilitate CPCAB Levels 2 and 3 Counselling Skills courses. In addition, I currently volunteer at the Terrence Higgins Trust as Youth Counsellor, working with young adults (18 to 24 years old).
Another aspect of my business sees me as a qualified Yoga Teacher, a discipline I have been practising for over 20 years and teaching since 2012, and I may bring elements of body movement, breath awareness as well as mindfulness into our sessions, if we both feel they may be of benefit to you.
I am also able to carry out session both in the English and Spanish languages.
