About me and my therapy practice

I'm Karen Reed, a qualified counsellor & founder of free2bucounselling, based in Mid Sussex.

I really enjoy my proximity to the countryside & the south coast & can often be found out & about in the countryside, enjoying nature & the coastline.

I have completed rigorous formal training, that said; I truly believe that sometimes the most valuable learning & compassion comes from life itself. I am human & I hope you will experience a sense of that.

Practice description

My practice is deliberately small, enabling me to really focus & hear each & every client, & the uniqueness they bring to the therapeutic space. I offer long-term or short-term sessions

My specific modality is Transactional Analysis. This is a psychoanalytic theory and method of therapy where in social interactions are analysed. My work is person-centred, focusing care on the needs of an individual. Ensuring that people's preferences, needs and values serve as a guide for my clinical decision making, & to provide care that is respectful of and responsive to them.

Whilst I celebrate uniqueness, I also acknowledge the shared human connection of our brain. It sustains our very existence & survival, but also has an enormous potential to cause havoc; becoming our worst enemy, harshest critic, & playing the cruellest tricks that can cause mental health unrest.

I am experienced in supporting people going through a number of different, difficult & distressing experiences, including anxiety, stress, loss & bereavement, low mood, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem, grief & trauma, to name a few.

Exploring personal areas of worry & upset can be hugely beneficial & liberating. Working together, in a confidential, non judgmental, & respectful space; sensitively, & compassionately, at your pace, I will support & encourage you to find calmness & restore a sense of wellness.

I belong to UKATA (UK Association for Transactional Analysis) & BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy), both organisations have stringent membership criteria & ethical codes to which I adhere. I am an Affiliate Counsellor with Health Assured & an Associate Therapist with Fortis Therapy & Training Ltd. I was also a counsellor for West Sussex Carers Support for over 2yrs until May 2023.

My first session

Initial Session

50 minutes - £25 (9am-5pm) or £30 (6pm-8pm)

Before we decide to work together, it's important to assess that it's safe, ethical and appropriate. An initial session gives us the opportunity to introduce ourselves & get to know one another a little better. We will complete an assessment form, it's not an exam, no pass or fail, but it is a good way for me to record any details about you & your life story that you feel able to share with me. During this session you may get a sense of whether I'm the right person for you, there is no obligation to continue if a connection isn't felt.
