About me and my therapy practice

I am registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and abide by their ethical code of conduct and frameworks as a therapeutic practitioner.  I am also a registrant of the British Psychoanalytic Council and adhere to their code of ethics.

My areas of expertise lie in treating stress, anxiety, depression  and bereavement. I have substantial experience in working with clients who experience difficulties to form or sustain intimate relationships with others and client's who have experienced difficulties with fertility.  I also have a special interest in race, identity and belonging.   Some clients have not faced such difficulties in the past, others have and attend, as they are conscious of repeating old patters that do not benefit them or have bothered them for a while. In these circumtances there might be issues of perfectionism, fears of failure/criticism, lack of acceptance, being isolated, not loved or abandoned.

My role is to help you contemplate, understand, explore and heal inner wounds. I have acquired a broad range of experience in working with many patient presentations in different theraupeutic settings; these settings have included NHS, private clinics and third-sector services.

Clinical Qualifications

I received and hold an MSc in Psychodynamic Counselling and Psychotherapy from Birkbeck College, University of London,  one of the leading academic and clinical college institutions for psychotherapy in the UK. The Msc. is accredited by the British Psychoanalytical Council and the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.

I also hold and have received an BSc (Hons) in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy from the School of Psychology at the University of East London. The BSc is accredited by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.

Practice description

My work is primarily informed by the psychodynamic approach

Psychodynamic is made up of two words from Ancient Greek: ‘psyche’ - the soul -and dynamis - power or capability.  In psychotherapy, it is used to describe the powerful unconscious forces within the mind, that is to say, not just the thinking, rational mind of which we are aware, but the inner world within us, made up of ideas, phantasies, and perceptions that are unavailable to our conscious selves. Psychodyamic Psychotherapy Involves working towards understanding how past relationships and events have impacted on your relationships and life choices. In this type of therapy, I will look at what is not spoken in words but is played out in the room; this helps me gain more insight in order to help you at a deeper in-depth level that, which is out of your awareness. Psychoanalysis has developed its own specialist language to describe the unconscious communications between one human being and another. Being with another person involves an exchange of feelings not only at a conscious level, but also at an unconscious one.

Practice description

Sometimes life can hurl difficulties our way and it can leave us feeling depleted, confused and detached. At other times our thoughts and feelings may seem out of balance to the event that triggered them or do not seem to begin from anything specific at all.

I work with the conscious and unconscious aspects of feelings and behaviour, exploring thoughts and feelings. This way of working aids us to understand ourselves and others by making meaningful connections/links  between the past and the present. It also aids us to understand and resolve what may be concerning/disturbing us.

My first session

The initial consultation is to discuss your needs /requirements. This would allow us to get to know each other better. The  consultation is between fifty minutes in duration. If we decide to work together we would meet at an arranged time and day each week.
