Practice description
My work is primarily informed by the psychodynamic approach
Psychodynamic is made up of two words from Ancient Greek: ‘psyche’ - the soul -and dynamis - power or capability. In psychotherapy, it is used to describe the powerful unconscious forces within the mind, that is to say, not just the thinking, rational mind of which we are aware, but the inner world within us, made up of ideas, phantasies, and perceptions that are unavailable to our conscious selves.
Psychodynamic Psychotherapy Involves working towards understanding how past relationships and events have impacted on your relationships and life choices. In this type of therapy, I will look at what is not spoken in words but is played out in the room; this helps me gain more insight in order to help you at a deeper in-depth level that, which is out of your awareness. Psychoanalysis has developed its own specialist language to describe the unconscious communications between one human being and another. Being with another person involves an exchange of feelings not only at a conscious level, but also at an unconscious one.
Counselling and Psychotherapy are forms of talking therapies where you can access emotional support. You can speak freely, reflect on your thoughts, emotions, feelings, desires, needs and fears. Being open in this way may help uncover vulnerable feelings that have been displaced out of conscious awareness. You and the therapist work collaboratively to discover patterns of thoughts (both conscious and unconscious) and emotions that may be causing you distress/difficulty or affecting how you deal with relationships with others. As you and the therapist reach an understanding what may be causing this, you both work together to explore new ways that may be helpful to bring about a positive change in order that you feel more equipped to deal with the issues that are uniquely affecting your life.

The initial consultation is a chance for you and I to get to know each other better. In this session I am interested in learning about you, your lived experience, what has brought you to therapy and what you would possibly like to achieve.

Practice description
Sometimes life can hurl difficulties our way and it can leave us feeling depleted, confused and detached. At other times our thoughts and feelings may seem out of balance to the event that triggered them or do not seem to begin from anything specific at all.
I work with the psychodynamic approach, this looks at the conscious and unconscious aspects of feelings and behaviour, exploring thoughts and feelings. This way of working aids us to understand ourselves and others by making meaningful connections/links between the past and the present. It also aids us to understand and resolve what may be concerning/disturbing us.
