About me and my therapy practice
While the single most important and best indicator of whether or not a therapist will be effective in working with you is the strength and quality of relationship between you both, it’s also good to know you’re working with a therapist who knows what they’re doing and who has some solid training, so I like to share the below information with you so that you know you are in safe hands!
I am an Integrative Therapist with over 15 years experience. I have accredited status with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy - in order for therapists to become accredited/registered we have to undertake extensive training courses and clinical hours with clients. I believe this is the minimum standard prospective clients should be looking for when searching for a therapist.
Is anxiety affecting your life? Are you overwhelmed in your professional or personal life? Are you sad/grieving and feel unable to cope? Are there too many demands on you? Wouldn't it be the goal to feel calm and back in control and have a sense of direction and renewed energy. Are you tired of putting a front on that everything is ok? Isn't it strange that we talk the least about the things we think about the most?
Counselling is a good place to start working things out. I provide a confidential, non-judgemental space to allow you to build trust enough to let me help you. I can help you move out of anxiety, feel calmer and get back to the life you deserve. I will listen fully and also engage fully, I don't 'just' listen I work hard alongside you to find hope/solutions.
I am available to see clients either face to face or via telephone.
Face to face Counselling - takes place at a therapy room in Ramsbottom town centre.
Telephone Counselling - Phone Counselling means I can work with you from wherever you are in the UK. There are many benefits to having your therapy by phone including:
- No travel time and expenses incurred attending your counselling appointments.
- Therapy can take place wherever you can create a comfortable and confidential space.
- More accessible, for example, to people with disabilities, long term illnesses or who don’t have child care.
- Some people choose phone therapy as they like to go walking while they talk.
For these reasons and more, or for people who just want the convenience and comfort of their own home, phone therapy is now becoming a popular alternative to face to face counselling.
My first session
If you decide to book in with me we will have an initial consultation appointment. This is so that you can talk about what is bringing you to counselling and what you hope to achieve and also allows me time to assess if I am the right person to help you. This also gives you time to decide if you want to work with me.
If, after the consultation, you decide to go ahead with counselling:
I offer short term (6-12 sessions) and long term (open ended) counselling. Whichever you decide I encourage you, in the first instance, to commit to working together for an initial period of 6 weeks before realistically evaluating the effectiveness of therapy. This is to allow time to build our relationship and gives time for me to have a clear understanding of what you are bringing to therapy and how I might help you.
Sessions are 50 minutes and are usually weekly on the same day/time however this can be negotiated if required/appropriate.
Sometimes, it might be that you want a one-off session or we only need a few sessions, there is no obligation but 6 is usually a minimum to begin with.
