About me and my therapy practice
By providing a safe place for people to express their inner thoughts and feelings, therapy helps them understand and regulate their emotional states better, come to terms with the real source of their distress, and develop greater emotional resilience. This can significantly enhance their confidence, self-esteem and wellbeing. It also helps ensure they are in a far stronger position to concentrate at work, engage in meaningful relationships and achieve their full potential.
I am a fully supervised BACP Accredited and UKCP Registered Integrative Psychotherapist, with over 20 years’ experience. I have an open approach to what works, having trained in several different theoretical models, and I stay abreast of the latest developments in my field, by furthering my professional development through conferences, workshops and seminars every year.
Being Integrative does not necessarily mean integrating different theories into one homogenised whole. It is more about having a versatile tool-kit, and being able to meet the emotional needs and worldview of a wide range of people, from different cultural and ethnic backgrounds, different life stages, and identity standpoints.
I make the most use of the Humanistic Client-Centred approach, informed by Attachment Theory, but I also use some exploration of transference and counter-transference in the Psychodynamic encounter, the short-term solution-focused protocols of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Socratic questioning, and a variety of artistic and creative stimuli, where appropriate. I also encourage the practice of Mindfulness and Meditation, and use these techniques in my interventions to treat stress, insomnia and anxiety in particular.
