About me and my therapy practice

Growing up in a large London family with roots in Northern Ireland and Trinidad & Tobago, my diverse upbringing, combined with extensive travel, has provided me with a diverse array of life experiences. These experiences have shaped my perspective, teaching me to value everyone I meet and appreciate the wisdom found in their unique viewpoints. This mindset carries over into my work, where I approach every person with an open mind, genuine empathy, and deep respect for the diverse experiences they bring to the table.

I picked the name Libera Mentis for my practice because it means "Free Mind"  and my goal is to assist you in freeing your mind and spirit from the challenges you are going through. In my approach, the focus is entirely on you. I strive to create a warm and secure space where we can work together. It's about nurturing an environment where you feel free to express yourself, knowing that you're protected, truly heard, and understood as we work together towards your goals.

I am an integrative therapist which means I use different methods to help you understand your issues, find effective ways to cope, and make positive changes in your life. I weave in various counselling concepts to tailor the therapy to suit you personally. This ensures that the process aligns with your unique needs and preferences, making it a more personalised and effective experience.

Practice description

Through online therapy sessions, I provide counselling services that are accessible to everyone, no matter who you are or where you are in the world. I offer a comfortable and confidential setting to discuss the issues that are affecting your life. Whether you're dealing with trauma, stress, anxiety, depression, bereavement or relationship problems, I can help you find a way forward, creating a safe space where you can talk openly about what's bothering you and work towards feeling better.

Using Zoom, MS Teams, or Google Meet for online therapy, allows you to connect from wherever you're comfortable. Talking from your own space can make you feel more at ease and open, leading to a more relaxed and genuine conversation. Your privacy is important, and I ensure a confidential and supportive environment for everyone.

My first session

I think of the first session as a Meet & Greet session where we start to get to know each other. I may like to know about what brings you to counselling, as well as some background information like your career, education, relationships and perhaps medical history. I'll ask you about any previous counselling and what worked and what didn't.  

We will also discuss our expectations for the sessions going forward. In every case, throughout the session, you should feel comfortable in asking questions to ensure  you have a clear understanding of what we should expect from each other.

In most cases I will complete one or two assessments to get an understanding of your safety and mental well being and these assessments will be reviewed every few weeks.
