About me and my therapy practice

A counselling relationship is often very different from many other relationships that we encounter.

Counselling can be a useful way of exploring your feelings and emotions safely and with the help of someone who is trained to help you move through difficult or uncomfortable feelings without judgement and with empathy. You may find that through addressing your experiences you are able to move forwards positively and with a greater understanding of yourself and your patterns/process.

My name is Katie Ellis and I offer counselling services in West Yorkshire. The service covers talking therapy and guided imagery for adults.

I have experience of providing emotional support to women, and young people aged 15-25, helping to improve their mental health and well-being. I have experience of working with issues surrounding self-esteem, confidence, anxiety and depression. Having previously worked in the voluntary sector with The Samaritans, and more recently with ex-offenders and their families, I also have experience of supporting those who experience suicidal thoughts and those who are struggling within their relationships.

Practice description

I adopt a Person-Centred approach and strongly believe that we are all capable of growth and change. During sessions, I feel I provide a safe, supportive and non-judgemental space for clients to discuss whatever they feel they need to. I aim to support clients to work through their feelings and struggles, whilst enabling them to remain in control.

I am also trained in the use of Guided Imagery and the Rewind Technique, which can be an effective treatment for those with phobias or those who have experienced traumatic events.

Talking Therapy sessions are 50 minutes in length and guided imagery up to 60. I will always aim to embed guided imagery and the rewind technique into talking sessions, in order to work through my clients' struggles fully and to the best of my ability. I provide an honest and open service for my clients.

My first session

Initial enquiry sessions are free, via telephone, to enable clients to decide whether or not my services are suitable for them. If enquiries are regarding the use of The Rewind Technique, the technique will be explained fully.

Once clients have decided to go ahead with counselling, the first session is used to complete a client information sheet, discuss the counselling agreement and to gain an insight into what my clients are struggling with and what they hope to gain from counselling. Again, if clients are interested in guided imagery and The rewind technique, I will aim to discuss this further and inform clients about what happens during these sessions.
