About me and my therapy practice

I am an Integrative Counsellor and Psychotherapist, an Accredited member of the BACP and an EMDR UK and Europe Accredited Practitioner working online. (EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing). I have experience working with: depression, anxiety, trauma, loss and grief, cultural issues, issues of race, immigration, cultural adaptation, racial trauma, mixed race experience, gender and sexuality, childhood abuse and neglect, relationships. In my model of practice I draw on different approaches (psychodynamic and humanistic)depending on issues presented, client's unique personality and their specific needs. At times I incorporate other creative ways of working, like drawing, painting, writing or dreams interpretation. I use EMDR, which is a WHO (World Health Organisation) and NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) approved, very effective and dynamic way of processing trauma, both simple and complex. However, the most important aspect of my work is creating a safe and supportive relationship with you, the client, where you can feel heard, respected and understood. The aim of my work is to support and empower you in getting in touch with and exploring your feelings and thoughts and examining how different life experiences impacted on who you are now. This work on connecting to, and safe exploration of, who you are becomes the foundation for processing emotional blocks and gaining deeper awareness of yourself, so that you can arrive at the place from where you are able to make desired changes into your behaviour and start creating your life in a free and conscious way.

Practice description

I have a particular interest in trauma and how it impacts on people’s ability to have harmonious relationships with themselves and others. Trauma may have happened as a single event, a series of events or there might have been a prolonged continual exposure to it, sometimes spanning over many generations within the family. It may be anything from childhood abuse and/or neglect, accidents to experiences of social oppression. Acknowledging traumatic events and processing emotional blocks they created opens the door to regaining balance and sense of wellbeing in a traumatised person's life. I am devoted to anti-oppressive practice, exploring cultural and identity issues and how they impact on people in their lives.

My first session

The first session lasts 50 min, as all subsequent sessions. The space of this session is for us to meet and get to know one another, where I would ask you some initial questions about your situation and answer any questions that you may have about the way I work. Based on this information I would decide if I can be of help to you or should make a more appropriate recommendation and you could decide if you want to continue working with me. There is no obligation to continue.

With EMDR therapy I offer a possibility of having longer sessions, depending on client's need and preference.

I am registered with a few insurance companies (AXA, Aviva and Vitality).
