About me and my therapy practice
I work as an integrated coach-therapist and practice within the Personal Consultancy framework. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation, I work fully online at present.
Based on both my own experiences and those of my clients, I firmly believe that one or the other of coaching and therapy, on their own, is often not enough. Imagine building a house, without a solid foundation? Or establishing the foundations, but not getting around to constructing the house? This example best explains why I believe in the power of combining both approaches together: to create a solid foundation and then a build a sound-structured house on top.
Personal Consultancy allows for the integration of a variety of counselling approaches with coaching. Together, we work through four stages (although sometimes, we may move backwards and forwards within the stages as new information emerges). The first stage is all about listening, allowing clients to be truly heard, as you share your story. We then examine and seek to understand some of the underlying issues which may have contributed to the situation. Then we move onto exploring and experimenting with solutions. And finally, we work to sustain the successful strategies, so you can feel confident in moving forward on your own.
I love working with individuals who recognise they have more to offer but are caught in long-held, self-limiting beliefs or see the “prize” but don’t know how to get there. I enjoy working in partnership with my clients, using my own real-world experiences plus my therapeutic training to facilitate progress and to help you realise your ambitions or achieve your goals.
I have trained in a variety of therapeutic approaches, and will bring what I hope will be the most appropriate techniques and thinking depending on our work together. In addition to coaching, these include; Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Transactional Analysis, Solution Focussed Therapy, Gestalt, Person-centred and Existential therapies. However, as a client you don’t need to worry about the theory. Leave that to me.
My first session
Our first session together is primarily about getting to know each other. Hopefully, we'll be working together closely for a period of time and therefore, establishing a genuine and authentic connection is vital.
We will also start to consider what has brought you to seek help, so that together, we can ensure that I'm the right person to support you. I firmly believe in my ethical responsibility to match my approach and skills with your needs. We can discuss referrals and other support available, if we determine I am not best-placed to work with you.
