About me and my therapy practice
It's good to talk, even better to be heard. I like to help people find their voice by building a safe and trusting space together. I've worked successfully with many issues, including:
trauma, generalised anxiety, intrusive thoughts, depression, addiction, compulsions, sexuality, coming out, shame, bereavement and loss, managing anger
In my career I have worked closely with university students and people in the creative arts, as well as patients in an NHS setting. I work in a primarily person centred way, integrating some CBT and psychodynamic techniques into the work where appropriate.
I’m particularly interested in helping young or older LGBT+ people who have been shown to experience poorer mental health than their straight / cisgender counterparts. Being bullied at school because of one’s sexuality is sadly still common, and the trauma caused by this impacts far too many of us.
People often come to counselling feeling stuck and unable to move on from a difficult situation in their life, whether it happened recently or many years in the past. I try to work with this feeling of 'stuckness' by offering a calm and containing environment, where you can express exactly what you are feeling without fear of being rejected.
I see clients for face to face sessions in the centre of Norwich near the market square. Alternatively I can work with clients anywhere in the world via Zoom.
Normally we will start with a free initial chat to discuss how we might work together, then if we agree to continue, we will have weekly sessions for £50.
I have a professional diploma in integrative counselling, and a Bachelors degree in Psychology.
My first session
We will go through the contract, discuss confidentiality and how I work. I may ask a series of questions about your history and what brings you to counselling. We will look at what you would like to achieve from counselling.
