About me and my therapy practice
There are times in life when we are faced with emotional challenges and life can feel overwhelming. Making the decision to begin counselling or therapy can feel like a big step but one that I believe is worth taking. It is a time to focus on your needs and to think about what you want from life. It is an opportunity to feel supported, to talk about whatever you choose in a non-judgemental and confidential space. Over time, confusing, difficult and painful emotions can be felt, expressed and worked through together. Often our difficulties can affect our ability to cope with life and our confidence in our ability to cope. Counselling and therapy can help you make sense of your situation enabling you to move forward with more confidence, clarity and certainty. It can support you in making meaningful changes in your life, help you reach a better understanding of yourself, find clarity in making difficult decisions and improve the quality of the relationship you have with yourself and with others.
I am a qualified psychodynamic counsellor and therapist. I will offer you a supportive and confidential environment where all that you bring will be listened to, valued and thought about. The pace of how we work is directed by you and I hope to help you move towards a place where change feels possible. Working psychodynamically means that I believe our present feelings, emotions and thinking are influenced by our early relationships with our parents or carers and from our childhood experiences. These experiences shape the way we are as adults. I will reflect and think about your past experiences together with your presenting issues with the aim of helping you make better sense of your life and the situation you are struggling with. I work from a therapy space in the centre of St Albans AL1 and from Luton LU1. I am also able to offer therapy via the telephone or zoom. I am a registered member of the BACP and I work in accordance with their Code of Ethics and Standards of Good Practice.
My first session
Our initial conversation can take place either on the telephone or via zoom . This is an opportunity for you to tell me what has brought you to seek therapy now, to ask any questions you have and I can explain how I work. It is also an opportunity for me to decide if I am able to work with you. If you decide that you would like to arrange a first session, we can agree to a mutually suitable time and day to meet for our first session. Sessions are for 50 minutes.
