About me and my therapy practice

I understand that making the decision to begin counselling or therapy can feel like a big step but one that I believe is worth taking. From my experience the main reason people seek counselling or therapy is their desire to change and/or to find some relief from distress. My purpose is to help you achieve this and support you during the process.

Counselling or therapy can provide a space to talk without worrying about being a burden, where your thoughts and feelings or troubling behaviour can be expressed. It is an opportunity to feel supported, to talk about whatever you choose, in a non-judgemental and confidential space. Although I will encourage you to talk and reflect on many parts of your life, you do not have to talk about anything you do not wish to. We will always work at your pace. I will help you make sense of your situation, to explore your thoughts, feelings, hopes and fears, so you can move towards a place where change feels possible. I will also offer you a supportive and confidential space, free of judgement with whatever you choose to bring.

Perhaps you are feeling frustrated with repeating patterns of behaviour that feel hard to understand and change.  Maybe you are feeling sad, frustrated, confused, overwhelmed, unfulfilled,  struggling with feelings of shame, self-doubt, low self-esteem and/or generally disappointed with how life is for you right now.  These are just a few of the issues that I can help you with and working together we can explore these issues, to help bring more clarity to your life and to help you feel more able to cope with life's challenges and the confidence in your ability to cope. I will help you move forward with more confidence, clarity and certainty.

I will support you in making meaningful changes in your life, help you reach a better understanding of yourself, find clarity in making difficult decisions and improve the quality of the relationship you have with yourself and with others.

Practice description

I am an experienced qualified psychodynamic counsellor and therapist. I will offer you a supportive and confidential environment where all that you bring will be listened to, valued and thought about. Working psychodynamically means that I believe our present feelings, emotions and thinking are influenced by our early relationships with our parents and from our childhood experiences. These experiences shape the way we are as adults. I will reflect and think about your past experiences together with your presenting issues with the aim of helping you make better sense of your life and the situation you are struggling with.

Counselling and therapy can also help with your development, growth and potential as an individual.

I offer open ended/long term therapy which means the number of sessions isn’t fixed. I can also offer you short term therapy if there are one or two specific issues that you would like to work on.

I work from my therapy room close to the centre of St Albans and from a therapy space in Luton. Both have nearby free parking and are easily accessible by public transport. I can also offer sessions via zoom or on the telephone.

I am a registered member of the BACP and I work in accordance with their Code of Ethics and Standards of Good Practice.
