About me and my therapy practice

I work with a person-centred approach, meaning I will meet you as the unique individual you are, exactly where you are on your life journey without judgement, criticism or expectations.

My ethos as a therapist is to come alongside you and working together, we will face whatever experience it is that is currently challenging or concerning you.  And, as part of our journey together, enable personal growth that you may become the best and most resilient version of yourself that you wish to be. As a counselling therapist, it is not my intention to provide answers and give direction but rather help you find your own answers, resolution, acceptance and way forward.

I believe the therapeutic relationship should be one of compassion, trust and respect providing you with a safe, confidential and empathic space in which to share and explore whatever may be troubling you.

Practice description

I work in a person-centred approach whilst drawing on a range of skills and resources to provide a tailored therapy approach bespoke for you as an individual.  I am an Integratively qualified therapist, well versed with Humanistic practice. I am primarily informed by the schools of Psychodynamic, Gestalt, Existentialism, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Transactional Analysis and Solution Focused Therapy.

I offer face to face, telephone, 'Zoom' and walk and talk therapy depending on individual need and can offer flexibility with appointments.

I work with children, adolescents, adults and the more mature adult.

I also provide personal therapy and supervision to trainees and qualified therapists alike.

My first session

I offer an initial fee free telephone consultation providing you with the opportunity to share what brings you to counselling at this time and what you hope to achieve from the therapy.  It gives us both the opportunity to get a sense of one another, for me to share how I work and for us to assess if I am the best therapist for you.  If we both feel we can work together we can then agree the best way forward for you.

About me and my therapy practice

I am an Integratively qualified counsellor with a person-centred approach to therapy. I draw on my knowledge of Clarkson’s 5 Relational Model and am also informed and integrate Gestalt, Existentialism, Attachment Theory, Transactional Analysis, and some Cognitive Behavioural Therapy into my supervisory practice.

I will tailor the supervision I provide to suit your needs based on what we discuss, agree and contract for in our work together as I recognise you are as individual as the clients you support. To this end, I will draw on a variety of creative resources that will most effectively enhance your supervisory experience and benefit your client work.

As supervisor, I have a responsibility to ensure your safe and ethical practice to promote both the welfare of you, as therapist, and your client.

I do not approach the supervisory relationship as ‘expert’ but see it as a collegial ‘coming together’ where drawing on my knowledge and experience we can enhance professional development and the therapeutic growth for your client. As supervisor and supervisee we share a duty of care to both client’s and the counselling profession to ensure ethical standards are maintained as set out by the BACP Ethical Framework for Good Practice.

I am able to offer face-to-face and online supervision on a 1:1 or group basis.

Practice description

My supervision practice is based on Inskipp & Proctor’s (2001) Tasks of Supervision, drawing on the Formative, Normative and Restorative approach. Thus it is my aim and intention to provide you with a supportive, safe and guiding relationship whilst offering education, learning and development and monitoring of practice.

I also draw on the Seven Eyed Model, by Peter Hawkins.  It allows me to consider and examine the different relationships and processes which play out between the client, therapist and supervisor and how they affect or react with each other whilst taking into consideration organisational, professional, historical and personal factors influencing the client, therapist and supervisor.

My first session

I offer an initial fee free telephone consultation giving us opportunity to explore and understand what you as supervisee are looking for and what I, as supervisor, can provide and how I work.  It also gives us an opportunity to get a sense of how we will work together on a relational basis and whether we feel we are 'the right fit' for one another.

If we both decide to proceed, our first session will be based on agreeing the terms of our contract of work together.  This is a collaborative piece of work and will include what we both require and expect from each other as supervisor and supervisee, the framework and ethics underpinning our supervisory relationship including confidentiality, boundaries and the duration and frequency of sessions.  This ensures we are both aware of and deliver the needs and expectations of each other as supervisee and supervisor.
