About me and my therapy practice

*Online and telephone sessions only*

I am a person-centred counsellor who has a lot of knowledge and experience in working with childhood trauma. When we are exposed to trauma at a young age for an extended period of time, overwhelming emotions will have become the default way of being, and you may find that any survival strategies that helped you to survive a hostile situation back then, have ceased serve you in the long-term. I work in a trauma-informed way which involves helping you to feel safe, grounded and resourced before we process any traumatic experiences. I provide a safe and empathic base where you can explore your experiences without judgement; and through this exploration, healing and positive change can occur.

Although my core approaches are person-centred / trauma-informed, I can also draw from other approaches to meet your needs. I also have a background in visual art, and I may suggest creative ways of expression from time to time if I feel it could be beneficial.

Alongside my private work, I have also worked in a college, a domestic violence service, and a local mental health charity as a counsellor. I have experience of working with a diverse range of clients of all ages, with a wide range of issues which include (but is not limited to) anxiety, panic disorder, depression, domestic violence, guilt, shame, self-harm, PTSD / CPTSD, bereavement (including bereavement by suicide), identity issues, low self-esteem, and work-related stress.
