About me and my therapy practice
Along the years I worked as a professional in the community I came across individuals from all walks of life and with various emotional and psychological difficulties. I witnessed first-hand how changes can place us somewhere we did not ask to be and how traumas and anxiety effect our ability to cope and carry on with the simplest tasks of daily life.
I have experience in working with adults with various Mental Health diagnosis and their families. Once a week I work with a charity aimed at survivors from sexual and domestic abuse.
I hold a BSc (Hons) in Systemic Counselling from The Family Institute at University of South Wales. Regardless my credentials, as a counsellor and human being, I have a genuine interest in other people’s problems alongside a desire to help you work through your issues, in parallel to or separate from, past and present obstacles.
Systemic Counselling is an evidenced strength-based approach that sees the individual in relationships with others rather than in isolation. Its core is to look at contexts, environments, and relationships (family, work, friends) alongside events, emotions, and feelings (trauma, anxiety, loneliness, bereavement, and loss) emerging from these interactions. Relationships mean patterns and Systemic looks at identifying those patterns, understand the reason why those patterns exist and finally seek ways to desired change.
It is not easy to speak with a counsellor about what troubles us, especially if those thoughts and feelings trigger embarrassment or are too private or difficult to share. Other times, what stops us from seeking counselling are feelings of anxiety, fear or stigma which can make us uncertain about speaking with a counsellor.
If that is your case, let me reassure you that my way of working with you will be confidential and collaborative: I create a safe place where you can share and bring light to whatever is troubling you and in this way, reveal your inner resources and co-create new meanings to a more fulfilling life.
My life experience and training enabled me to work in a non-judgmental and intuitive way and alongside the counselling techniques I learned, I can assure you most clients end up feeling relieved and realize that having counselling with me is a safe space to share thoughts and feelings without the fear of being judged and to bring clarity to long conceived ideas and beliefs.
