About me and my therapy practice

Walking Therapy

Walking Therapy has benefits in itself, being outdoors in a gorgeous green space can help us feel more connected to the world around us lessening our isolation.  Observing nature can a source of comfort and inspiration, it can bring another layer to the counselling work as we encounter obstacles, notice change around us or find our attention drawn to a particular feature.  The movement can mirror and enhance the therapeutic process, as well as bringing all the well documented benefits of exercise in the fresh air.  Clearly there is the benefit in these Covid times that meeting outdoors means we can meet face-to-face, rather than online if that's not for you.

 We will meet in a park (I currently use Castle Park and the Downs) We will be two people walking along as others are, except we will be doing the work of counselling.  You can expect the same level of attentive listening as you would get if we were meeting indoors. Similarly it is your space and time to focus on what you need.  

These sessions would also be suitable for those with babies or young children, please get in touch to discuss this if you think it would be a useful option for you.

We will have an initial session to try it out, explore what has brought you to counselling and what you would like to gain.  If you decide that it is not the right fit or the right time for you, there is no obligation to continue. 

My first session

I offer an introductory session, this is 50 minutes long and is charged at £45.  This is an opportunity for me to understand what brings you to counselling, what you would like to focus on or work towards changing and explore how we might work together.  It is also a chance for you to get to know me, do you think it would be a good fit?  We would do this while walking in your chosen venue.  If you decide not to proceed, that is absolutely fine, there is no obligation to continue.

About me and my therapy practice

In this deeply unusual and unsettling time we are all affected, your life will in some way have been touched and you will be adapting to a new way of being. This is inevitably challenging, and may well exacerabate existing difficulties. I have moved most of my work to be online and on the phone so can continue to offer support and a safe space. 

Counselling can help us get through tremendously difficult times in our lives but also create longer term change by deepening our self - awareness, bring insight into certain behaviours and building our resilience.  You will receive a warm, empathic welcome, I will listen closely to your story without judgment and we will decide together if/ how we might work together.  I am an Integrative Counsellor so make use of a range of models and theories.  I use some CBT tools, Transactional Analysis and I find thinking about our systems and the people/ society around us to be very useful.  Depending on you I may suggest some creative tools, for example, creative writing or sketching.  I find writing incredibly useful and have seen many clients use it effectively between sessions and after our counselling work has come to an end. 


My first session

I offer an initial assessment session which is an opportunity to understand you, what has brought you here and what you would like to gain through counselling. It is also a chance for you to get to know me a bit and ask any questions you may have. This is a full session charged at my normal rate to ensure that there is sufficient time and holding. There is no obligation to continue after this if you do not think it is a good fit for you.  This would be online, I am currently using Whereby, Whatsapp and Zoom.
