About me and my therapy practice

What if... you told yourself a different story?

I'm here first and foremost to listen. Once I know what story you have told yourself only then can we start to work together to unravel what is causing you distress.

Memories are often unreliable narrators but they can help us to ascertain how we have programmed ourselves and only then can we seek to work out what course of action might be best to shift our thinking.

Therapy can develop your feeling skills; it can help you to put invisible things into words, to go deep and face things and draw out what T.S. Eliot called our, “undisciplined squads of emotion."

I am an advocate of a 'whatever works' holistic approach to achieving better mental health.

Practice description

People enter therapy for many reasons. Sometimes it's very specific but many times it’s hazy and unclear what we actually want. We can just get stuck in the reeds of daily life. Is therapy the answer? I hope so. My only guarantee is a commitment to get down and do the work with you in your search for a better life.

I am not a teacher or a life guru and I don’t have a secret and this space might not be for everyone. I'm not a traditional counsellor. I like to be honest with my observations but primarily I am here to listen and help you find your own way.

There is no dogma in my approach, ‘most learning is not the result of instruction. It is rather the result of unhampered participation in a meaningful setting.’ Ivan Illich .

I am registered with and work under the ethical codes and practises of the counselling and psychotherapy profession.

My first session

The goal of therapy is to provide a space for reflection where it may have not previously existed. Here you can use this space to create opportunities to know yourself more fully, connect with others more deeply, and live life more harmoniously.

Psychotherapy is about slowing things down so you have time to recognise and understand patterns of behaviour that may have gone unnoticed, whether automatically and often unconsciously without awareness.

People often find themselves in distress because they cannot slow down enough to think clearly. In the therapeutic space, you can pause and reflect, identify new choices and find freedom from the same painful, self-defeating repetitive patterns. This freedom can often help you to see things differently and ultimately become a better version of yourself.
