About me and my therapy practice
Many clients come to therapy with labels like "Depression", "Anxiety", "PTSD". But on their own these labels tell me very little about your issues, needs, or goals. You might be someone that needs a safe, non-judgmental environment to really be free to express yourself in a way you can't elsewhere. Maybe you don't even know how to begin exploring your emotions. It is all too common for us to get stuck in our emotions left over from something in the past, or use more "acceptable" ones to cover the most helpful ones. I'll help you pay closer attention to your emotions as they're experienced in session.
My practice is founded on a person-centered approach. Meaning you're the tour guide of the museum of your life, and my role is to follow alongside you as we explore some of the more cluttered and unclear aspects of your experience.
It can be so scary reaching out for help, and putting your trust into someone else. We can have a brief (& free) chat, where you can share more of what you hope to explore in your life. This will help us understand what you need from me in the therapeutic relationship, and gauge what it'll be like to work with me.
I take a person-centered, emotion-focused approach to helping you explore your experiences of the world around you. The therapeutic relationship between us will be one based on a caring and emphatic attitude, and one in which you feel safe and understood. This very nurturing relationship will lay the ground work for allowing your personal growth and potential to shine bloom.
My practice is also trauma-informed, meaning I have an awareness of the various and profound ways trauma can impact many avenues of our life, including your nervous system and how we relate to others around us. I also understand that the trauma is not your fault, nor is it something you ever deserved happen to you.
My first session
I offer a free 30 min, online consultation. This gives us an opportunity to learn about each other's experiences; what you wish to address in sessions; and my experience / training as a therapist.
In the first session, we will explore further your needs and preferences to ensure you get the most out of our time together, and take the time we need to get to know you and your situation better.
