About me and my therapy practice

I'm pleased to offer the option of face to face sessions from my Edinburgh therapy room as well as online. I’ve a limited number of appointments available at the moment. Please contact me to check availability.

My role as a therapist’s is to work with you to explore your issues and concerns and to distinguish helpful/unhelpful themes and patterns in your life. Some of the ways I work with clients is by processing events from their past and present, increasing their self awareness and developing their capacity to regulate emotions.

I'm trained to work with a range of presenting concerns and to help you find ways to cope with issues in your life.

While it can be valuable to talk about your problems with close friends and family members, sometimes the people around you aren’t able to provide the help you need.

As a qualified professional, I'll listen to you and help you to understand yourself better, so you can make positive changes in your life.

Training and qualifications

  • Accredited member (MBACP (Accred)) of the BACP.
  • Post Graduate Diploma (PGDip) in Counselling from the University of Edinburgh. This was focused on the Person Centred approach and Psychodynamic perspective.
  • Trauma Enhanced Practice Levels 2 and 3.
  • Introduction to Schema Therapy
  • Corporate Mental Health Champion. In 2018 I worked for the Managing Agent of the Scottish Government’s national fuel poverty scheme, Warmer Homes Scotland. Alongside my administration role I set up a staff Mental Health Champion service, a role I continue to offer.

Prior to training as a psychotherapist I worked in corporate investment and banking organisations, having completed a Bachelors of Arts (BA) in Business Administration.

Practice description

I am happy to work with almost any issue and have experience of working with a wide range of clients over the age of 18.

I have a speciality in working with people who are affected by trauma. I hold awareness that an event, a series of events or a set of circumstances that is experienced by an individual as physically or emotionally hurtful, harmful or life threatening can be termed as trauma. Some examples include being bullied, abused or neglected and experiencing loss, violence or judgement.

Experience

In addition to my private practice, I'm a psychotherapist at a charity in Leith, Edinburgh (since 2017), which is a leading centre for the provision of affordable high-quality psychotherapy & counselling.

Experienced telephone counsellor for Trauma Counselling Line Scotland (2018-2022), which is a free service provided by Health in Mind, a charity promoting positive mental health and wellbeing in Scotland.

Previously, I was a counsellor at The PF Counselling Service (2015), a charity located in Morningside, Edinburgh. I was also a call taker for ParentLine, Scotland’s National Children’s Charity helpline (2013), providing advice for anyone caring for or concerned about a child.

My first session

I ask each client to complete a self-referral form in advance of our initial session and to consider what they're looking for from counselling. We would talk about this in the first session.

The first session gives us a chance to consider whether counselling is right for you before continuing. It's also an opportunity for you to get a feel for how I work and for us to get a feel for how we work together.

We can talk about the number of sessions which feel right for you or you can take some time after the session to reflect on if you'd like to go ahead with more sessions. We'd agree a plan going forward based on both our input in the initial session.

What I can help with
