I am currently offering Counselling face to face (usually by hiring a suitable space or possibly home visiting), online via video platform or by phone, according to your choice.
You can contact me first of all via text or through the bacp format as you wish. You can try ringing me, but my phone may be on silent as I am often working.
Sessions are usually 50 minutes, up to an hour max.
I work during usual office hours and sometimes evenings by appointment. Often sessions are weekly but I am also open to fortnightly sessions.
About me and my therapy practice
I describe myself as a Client Centred pluralistic counsellor. I have over 10 years of experience, am accredited, also holding a Supervision Certificate qualification.
I have gathered much knowledge and skills over the years, regularly studying client issues, treatment options and modalities, updating my knowledge and skill base with the latest developments.
My main approach is Person Centred talking therapy and I have knowledge of other modalities such as Mindfulness, Compassion and Empathic based approaches, Existential therapy, Solution focussed and CBT techniques especially regarding Anxiety disorders.
I practice SGI Buddhism, although this does not mean I am closed minded to other religions/ philosophies and ways of understanding life. I am open to exploring existential issues (e.g. death, isolation, freedom, meaning and identity) if appropriate and I believe we all have a "shadow" part of ourselves, that can either help or hinder according to our relationship with this aspect of the self. I am interested in spirituality and if this is something you wish to talk about, then I am open to doing so.
The therapy we do, is not necessarily confined to talking. I can also offer different approaches, such as working with choosing and placing objects, drawing, use of colour and writing. I can offer a tailor made pluralistic service, developed with the unique whole person in mind.
I have a decade of experience, working with many issues including anxiety, depression, severe trauma such as sexual abuse, rape, domestic violence, also bereavement, anger, family issues, addiction and work/ career related issues. I also specialise in relationships and codependency. However, please note I work in this area on an individual basis only.
No concerns are too minor or small to work with. It may be that you are experiencing low mood and not know why or perhaps you feel you could be happier and want to explore this. Our feelings and emotions are crucial to our wellbeing and inform our lives.
Practice description
I am here to kindly and mindfully support you to work through your personal challenges, in order for you to make any beneficial changes and move onwards in your journey, increasing your wellbeing.
I aim to help you alleviate any suffering wherever possible and see this as a very important part of the therapy. I will consult you on your wishes/ aims, attentively listening, as your wishes, thoughts and feelings take priority.
We can talk about past, present and/or future as you wish, all these aspects can be important. I regard our work together as a collaborative working alliance where I am facilitating you to explore and travel wherever you need to go, in the therapeutic process.
I may offer information, different perspectives or psychoeducation at times if I feel appropriate, but my aim is always to empower you, so I will never tell you what to do. I believe it's healthier for you to make your own decisions and come to your own realisations, understandings and resolutions with my support.
My first session
I am offering a free 20 minute phone consultation so that we can discuss working together, to see if you are happy to proceed.
In our first full session (if in person) I would require us to read over my contract and if you are happy, sign it in agreement. This outlines confidentiality amongst other considerations like cancellations and rearrangements. If working remotely I would send this via email. We would also have time in our first session to begin our work together and I would explore with you your best hopes for the outcomes of therapy.
I have a duty of care so would like to take a few basic details. All information and anything talked about is confidential unless anything arises of significant concern. This is a basic requirement of professional counselling.
My belief is, as human beings, we are all inherently respect worthy, as everyone has immense potential to create extraordinary value and benefit, for themselves and others. I am a Buddhist and have utmost respect for others choices regarding their beliefs and have worked successfully with people who possess different beliefs and religions.
My own past experiences of mental health challenges and not so good counselling as a client, have positively informed my counselling practice. I can say with hand on heart that I have proudly overcome some truly painful areas of my life. This gives me profound hope for others to overcome their unhappiness, transforming their life in the process.

I work flexible hours and will consider holding sessions on evenings and Saturdays as well as within usual office hours.
I can offer online video or telephone.
I am flexible with the time and can do an hour and a half if needed as this is the basic BACP requirement per month.
I would also consider doing groups of up to 4 Supervisees per group. This would be at less expense for the participants and half the time can be claimed by each Supervisee (1 hour). This would be 2 hours long.
About me and my therapy practice
I hold a CPCAB Level 6 qualification in Therapeutic Counselling Supervision. I also have over a decade of experience as a Counsellor working in Private Practice, for an EAP company and also the Charitable Sector. Currently I am working for an EAP company and online with BetterHelp, plus I also have a Private practice.
I have substantial experience working with Survivors of Trauma, with issues such as Sexual Abuse and Domestic Violence, also Bereavement and Work related issues via my EAP work.
My CPD studies at the moment include Shadow work and learning different approaches in treating Anxiety e.g. ERP, which is so prevalent in today's society. I've also gathered much experience working with this Client issue.
I practice SGI Buddhism and have an interest in Spirituality and Existential concerns. I'm open for these subjects to come into the Supervision if appropriate. I personally strive to engage in Self- development and have had much therapy myself. I have overcome much of my own trauma and unhappiness, which I believe gives me additional insight and knowledge. I am still working on myself, which simultaneously helps to motivate me in my work as a Supervisor and Therapist.
I use the Seven Eyed model of Supervision as a framework and in foundation I am Person Centred in my approach. I have knowledge of other therapeutic approaches and Supervision models.
My work is underpinned by the BACP Ethical framework.
My interests include Buddhist chanting and being part of the Buddhist community in Cornwall. Friendship is important to me. I design and make ceramics and enjoy the big outdoors, be it cycling, walking or swimming.
