About me and my therapy practice

I trained and qualified with The Institute for Arts in Therapy and Education in London and have an MA in Integrative Arts Psychotherapy. I have been in practice since 1999, initially as a trainee, then qualifying in 2001. I am accredited by the UKCP (United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy) and am also a member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy).

I practice according to the code of ethics of UKCP, and have ongoing clinical supervision as well as ongoing training for professional development.

I work one-one with adults. I also work with children and young people in the context of their family.
I have worked successfully with people experiencing trauma, bereavement, loss, low self esteem, low confidence, relationship difficulties, depression, anxiety and addiction.

With over 15 years of working as a counsellor, psychotherapist and arts psychotherapist, I recognise that issues can manifest in each individual very differently: no two people have the same depression; no two people have the same way of relating to their partner or to their children.

I look, with you, beyond the label of the issue, and help you to access the emotional world inside yourself. This world is unique to you and contributes to your specific way of understanding your circumstances, your relationships and yourself. I help you discover, identify, explore and creatively work with this emotional world. It is this insight into your emotional world which may be the key to creating changes which have so far eluded you, and make now your time of real change.

Of course, emotions can also be labels.  Most people know what is meant when we refer to anger, envy, grief, rage, sadness, happiness, joyfulness, fear. Often this ‘knowing’ is a short cut to describe something which is actually very complex and multi-layered.

The way I will work with you is to support you to explore the range of your emotions, without assuming that I actually know what they feel like for you. This becomes more about the quality of the emotion, the way it affects or influences you, and how you carry it in your being, rather than simply about just a word.

I am also the Clinical Curator (rather than Director) of BodhiSpace, where I have gathered together talented professionals, research and good practice to wholly attend to the needs of our clients and the world we live in.

I created BodhiSpace in response to a growing awareness of mental, emotional, psychological, relational and spiritual health needs in our modern world. BodhiSpace is a concept, a community of clinicians and a physical space in the beautiful market town of Olney, Buckinghamshire.

Bodhi is an abstract Sanskrit word with a meaning close to 'awaken' or 'enlighten'. It is also the tree under which it is reputed that the Budha sat when he achieved enlightenment.

About me and my therapy practice

I have a Diploma in Clinical Supervision using the creative arts from the London Centre for Psychodrama. I offer clinical supervision for training or for qualified psychotherapists and counsellors. This can be on an individual basis or in group supervision.

I offer clinical supervision to therapists from all models of counselling and psychotherapy e.g. person centred, psychodynamic, humanistic, arts therapies etc.  I have experience of offering supervision to therapists in all kinds of settings eg. agencies, schools, private practice, corporate work.

The supervision I offer can include the use of the creative arts, which I believe can enhance exploration of client work and enable the supervisee to 'get underneath' the case material.  Available for you to use will be visual arts, puppets, sandtray, role play and other dramatic and projective methods.

Overall, my clinical supervision services are provided to help you improve the level of care that you offer and will always be provided in a positive and supportive manner.
