About me and my therapy practice
Whatever brings you to counselling or psychotherapy, you need space and a caring presence to allow you to slow down and begin to pay attention to your deeper feelings, to understand what is causing you difficulty, from which a way forward in life can emerge.
Life events can distort who we truly are and impair our ability to make choices that support us. Unconscious coping strategies in terms of our behaviours, or responses to others, that develop over time may not only have outlived their usefulness but be undermining us in the present.
It is the therapist's willingness to connect with, value, and seek to understand all parts of you - to relate to you in your uniqueness - that sets counselling and psychotherapy apart from other spaces you may turn to for help. It is the relationship we establish between us that is the key to successful therapy.
I am an experienced counsellor and psychotherapist, having worked for 10 years with individuals from widely differing backgrounds, all bringing unique variations on human issues.
I work from home, within walking distance of several train and bus routes, and have onsite parking. (Please note, there are 28 steps to my consulting room.)
Sessions are 50 minutes duration and take place at the same time every week. If you are late for a session, I will see you for the remainder of the session time.
If you are unable to make a session, I can offer a Zoom or telephone session at your normal session time. It may be possible for me to offer you another time in the week. I will expect you to pay for any missed or cancelled sessions that I am unable to rearrange. However, you are able to take a total of 4 weeks absence from sessions in a 12 month period.
I invoice monthly and payment is by bank transfer.
Privacy Notice: I am registered with the ICO (Information Commissioner's Office) for data protection purposes and only collect personal data that is necessary to provide therapy as a private practitioner. Further information can be found in my therapy agreement which you will receive at our first session.
My first session
I suggest we meet for one or two initial sessions to see how it feels for us to work together so that you can decide whether you want to continue.
In the first session I will ask you what brings you to therapy and what you hope to get from it, as well as about your history. Through our conversation, it may be possible to identify outcomes you might wish to work towards. You can also ask me any questions you may have about therapy and how I work.
