About me and my therapy practice
What could be more important than gaining awareness about who you are and how you function in the world? Therapy can support you in developing a more flexible, creative and open minded approach to your life and the challenges that come with it.
'When we are no longer able to change a situation - we are challenged to change ourselves.' Viktor E. Frankl
If you choose to get in touch with me, I hope you will find me warm, accepting and non-judgemental. I have been trained to use a person-centred, relational, psycho-dynamic existential approach but if this means nothing to you (and it certainly wouldn't have done to me prior to my training) I can explain more when we meet.
My intention is to provide a service tailor made for you and over my three decades of working in the mental health/personal development field I have gathered lots of experience and ways of working - tools, techniques and ideas that I hope will make your experience of therapy with me interesting and enjoyable.
Practice description
You are a unique individual with your own personal experiences, needs and desires and I am here to listen to you and hopefully help you to understand yourself more deeply.
Together we can work out how your past might be impacting on your present and help you to find ways to change the way you feel about your past so you no longer feel emotionally or physically held hostage by it.. I use a trauma informed - cause and effect approach in which I ask 'what happened to you' rather than 'what is wrong with you' and together we will work to help you find ways to become more emotionally balanced and resilient.
During your lifetime you have gathered lots of resources (internal and external) that help you cope with life and its' inevitable challenges. Whilst working together I will support you in starting to remember the ones that really work for you as well as discovering some new ones because this will help you gain more confidence and enhanced self-esteem. By learning to accept and love yourself, you will feel more positive and be better equipped to understand, accept and love other people so relationships can become more satisfying.
We will take a holistic approach and you will be supported in gaining awareness about your mind- body-soul connection and focus on how you feel emotionally, physically and spiritually. We will work on you becoming more present in the here and now so you can learn to enjoy what is happening now rather than being dragged down by thoughts of the past or anxieties about the future. By observing your thoughts, feelings and behaviours you can gain awareness and space to start practising new ways of being and by doing this you will be creating new neural pathways and connections. You can quite literally change your mind!

I work via zoom and can either see you for supervision for a full hour and a half once a month or split our meetings into two 45 minute fortnightly sessions - whatever works best for you. I know that studying psychotherapy, going on placement and juggling work and family can be challenging so will be flexible in finding a convenient time for us to meet.
About me and my therapy practice
Hi and thank you for checking out my profile
I am a psychotherapist (PGDip) using a humanistic integrative approach with a career in mental health spanning three decades.
I work mainly with clients who have developmentally traumatised backgrounds/complex trauma and are in addiction recovery and I also run a trainee placement programme.
I have had excellent training at The Grove and one of my highlights was actually having a supervision session with Ernesto Spinelli!
Since gaining my Diploma in Integrative Supervision last year I have been supervising trainees and really enjoying the work we do together. I offer a safe space for trainees to discuss their experiences and am happy to hear them talk about how they are experimenting with new ways of working with clients and reflecting on what has gone well and what in hindsight could have been done differently and I perceive by their honesty and openess that they don't feel judged by me but rather supported and guided when necessary.
I like to work in a way that brings the supervisee and myself into the 'here and now' and so our work together becomes experiential rather than just a discussion about retrospective facts - a bit like sucessful client work, a dynamic exploration of process rather than simply content.
I hope that together we get the feeling the client is in the room with us rather than someone who we are talking about 'out there.' Always on the look out for transference experiences to bring our blind spots into view and really start to gain a deep understanding about our clients and ourselves.
I hope that I inspire my supervisees to bring their congruently individual self to their work. The more we can be ourselves, the more we have to offer.
