Availability
I am currently available for sessions online via video conferencing platforms Monday - Friday. I will be back in Exeter in September for in person sessions.
About me and my therapy practice
I offer a compassionate and confidential space for you to explore any difficulty you may be experiencing. We can work together to make sense of your situation and feelings. I will listen exquisitely, gently challenge your beliefs and encourage fresh perspectives. Through small shifts you may find an alternative way of thinking. This approach builds on the momentum that brought you to therapy in the first place. I will work with you for you to feel understood and more at ease in your life.
You may have experienced something quite difficult or perhaps you are suffering from anxiety or low mood, relationships might not be going so well, or you feel stressed and overwhelmed. As an integrative counsellor I am able to draw on different therapeutic approaches to suit your present needs. I work with Gestalt, Existential and Psychodynamic approaches and sometimes I may incorporate CBT or Psychological Education to support our work together.
Practice description
My approach is a talking therapy, with the option of creative experiments such as working with images/postcards, sand tray, figurines or the empty chair technique. These experiments are useful as they can help you to express yourself in ways that are not so well known to you and assist you in exploration of inner conflicts which can lead to resolution and increased self awareness.
I believe that past events do impact us in the present but we don't need to go digging around looking for them as such. If something is impacting you it will show up in your day to day life in your relationships, memories, thoughts and general wellbeing. We will focus on these present day occurrences. We will work to bring greater awareness to your emotions, befriending them and finding out what is important to you and what you need to move forward.
Qualifications and Experience
- Advanced Diploma in Integrative Counselling at Iron Mill College Exeter
- Level 6 Diploma, 1st year Gestalt Psychotherapy program at The Gestalt Centre/London Metropolitan University
- Level 3/4 Certificate in Humanistic Counselling at The Gestalt Centre
- Support group facilitator for Rethink Mental Illness
- Listening volunteer for Samaritans
Continued Professional Development
- Understanding Autism - a level 2 certificate
- Applying Attachment Theory in clinical Practice: transforming developmental deficits and building secure attachment with Linda Cundy
- Breathwork for Anxiety and Trauma with Kate Williams
My first session
It is important to find a therapist you feel comfortable with. I suggest we have a brief chat where you can get an impression of me and ask any questions that you would like to ask. There is no fee for this. If you decide you would like to continue we can arrange a time and day for your first session.
During your first session we will focus on what brought you to therapy and I will ask questions to build a picture of your situation and assess your needs and goals for therapy.
If it turns out that you need a different therapist or therapy with a different skill-set I would be happy to make a suitable referral.
Please contact me to arrange a free initial consultation.
