About me and my therapy practice

My name is Abigail Lang and I am a Qualified Integrative Counsellor registered with the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP). I am friendly, optimistic and open minded and can offer you a safe, non-judgemental and confidential counselling service.

For anyone familiar with Counselling as an Integrative Counsellor I incorporate elements of the Person Centred, Cognitive Behavioural and Transactional Analysis therapeutic models in to my work. For those not familiar with Counselling what this means is I tailor make the therapeutic process to fit you, the client, and your individual needs.

I believe that we all intuitively know what is right and wrong for us, but due to the pressure that sometimes accompanies modern life we can become cut off from this inner knowledge and our own intuition. Ever ask yourself how did I end up here? Found yourself at a fork in the road and not sure how to move forward? Are you looking for change? If you’ve ever found yourself thinking in this way, or you’re just looking for some help and support, then counselling might be right for you.

I am confident that I am able to support others in their own development. I am open, honest and down to earth in my work, allowing you, the client to speak freely. I endeavour to support you in finding solutions for whatever issues you are currently facing, and achieving your goals.

Counselling is most effective when based on a trusting relationship. Therefore I offer you a free 30 minute initial consultation to meet me, discuss your needs in therapy, and establish if I am the counsellor for you.

Please call me on 07908 833855 or email on abigaillang8@yahoo.com to book your free initial consultation.

Practice description

So why Integrative Therapy? In short its flexible, collaborative and focused on you the individual. A longer response to this question might include my journey into therapeutic work. While exploring the idea of working as a therapist I found myself overwhelmed by the numerous models of therapy on offer. How could I possibly know which one was right for me? I was paralysed by choice. Integrative Therapy felt like the solution.

A model of therapy that incorporated numerous models into one framework. Meaning that rather than trying to make everyone fit into the same therapeutic box, I could work with each person as an individual, and tailor make the process to them specifically. We are all different and we all have a different healing process. My job is to work out what works for you.

The primary models of therapy I work with are Person Centred, Cognitive Behavioural, and Transactional Analysis. However, I do believe that incorporating the body is a vital part of talk therapy. Our bodies give us so much information, and for many differing reasons, sometimes we have stopped listening. Without this information we are only ever hearing half the picture of what is going on for you. Put simply, within our sessions I will continually encourage you to check in with your body, and to tell me what's happening, what's it trying to tell you?

Sometimes therapy involves exploring the whys? How did this begin, where did it begin? Sometimes its about what do I do right now, and what's getting in the way?

In short, its hard to define my exact therapeutic process as its different with each person I sit with. I don't have a set process, as if I did, it would total miss the point that we are all different. If you would like to know more I would simple encourage you to reach out and book a consultation. Its free, and I would be more than happy to hear from you.

My first session

Our first session together will be a little different from our ongoing sessions for two reasons. One, there is a small amount of paperwork necessary when beginning any therapeutic relationship. And two, we need to establish how we are going to use our time together. What are our goals? Goals give us structure, focus, and direction in our work and are a vital part of effective therapy. The more specific the better, so spending a little extra time exploring this in our first session, sets us up for a more beneficial therapeutic process overall.

Prior to our first session we will have had a 15 minute telephone consultation, and a 30 minute face to face (or zoom) consultation. These are free of charge. This process gives you the time to really think through what you want to achieve, and decide if I am the person you want to support you in this process.
