About me and my therapy practice
In 2017 I founded MANN uP. MANN uP is a male-affirmative counselling, mentoring and life coaching practice (Open to all, both males and females), that can deliver both personal and collective advancement programmes and workshops.
MANN uP services are designed to support others to improve the state of their psychological health (their levels of mental and emotional wellbeing).
MANN uP believes that there is a strong connection and correlation between your psychological health and the state of your health in other parts of your life (your physical health and fitness levels, the quality of the relationships in your life, your academic or professional performance and the hobbies, interests and passions you pursue to give you life a sense of enjoyment and fun).
Having high levels of psychological strength, stamina and resilience empowers you to be in a better position to unlock your potential in all those areas of your life, and making advances in your physical, relational, vocational or recreational wellbeing has a positive impact on your psychological health too.
MANN uP’s intent is to promote awareness of male wellbeing issues, provide services that advance mental and emotional wellbeing and facilitate access to knowledge, guidance and support that enables others to improve the levels of wellbeing in their life.
The phrase "man up" his historically referred to those that identify as male adopting a stoic and emotionally devoid manner that can inhibit and actively damage your psychological wellbeing. I intend to reclaim this phrase and re-purpose it. Here the acronym MANN uP stands for someone being empowered and supported to: master affirmative new narratives - unlock potential.
Collaborate with me on your own personal advancement journey and together we can help you re-write your life story and discover and release your own personal potential.
My approach will be to work with you to help identify the areas of your life you would like to work on and advance.
Initially this will involve us 'auditing' how life is going for you at the moment to identify areas you would like to focus on in your therapeutic journey. This will include identifying your strengths, talents and resources you can utilise to advance, and also identifying 'barriers' that might be getting in the way of you achieving your own personal potential.
Then we will collaborate in the preparation of a therapeutic 'plan of action' which we will work through together, that will aim to address those issues you want to do work on in a manner that builds on your strengths, talents and resources whilst working to minimise or remove any 'barriers'.
You will be encouraged throughout your journey to develop a more positive, supportive, encouraging, compassionate and constructive view of self to strengthen your self-concept and give you the confidence to believe in and unlock your own personal potential.
My first session
I normally recommend that potential clients come along for a no-obligation Introductory Session to 'suss out' if I am the right person for them to undertake some personal advancement work with.
At this session, I will give you some information on me any my ways of working and go over with you the counselling contracting framework that protects and prioritises you to help you make a more informed decision about proceeding into a programme.
We will also carry out a preliminary assessment to help identify areas you would like to work on and any pertinent issues that could impact on your therapeutic journey.
After that session, you will then have time to reflect and consider if the approach being offered is right for you.
