About me and my therapy practice
I am an integrative child, adolescent & young adult psychotherapist offering weekly face-to-face and online sessions.
Since 2012 I have worked with schools in Peckham, Brixton, Bermondsey and Hackney; providing therapy to students aged 5 – 18.
I now specialise in work with older adolescents/young adults, aged 15-30, supporting them as they make their transition into adulthood.
My approach is primarily psychodynamic. This means allowing the client to bring whatever content they wish to share, whilst I try to respond to the underlying anxieties and conflicts being expressed. I integrate psychodynamic, person-centred, attachment and mentalization theory to inform the work, enabling connections to be made with the client's past and present state of mind.
Therapy can provide a safe and confidential space, within which a young person can think and gradually come to understand their own inner world. Consistent weekly sessions create a sense of continuity; of being held; of having parameters within which to build trust, explore relationships and communicate.
Practice description
My practice is based in East Dulwich.
If you are a young person seeking help, please include your age and whatever details you wish to include about your current circumstances.
If you are the parent(s) of a teenager or young person and wish to make an inquiry on their behalf, please include their first name, age and a brief account of why you are seeking help.
To get in touch, either use the BACP contact form or email me directly: ruth@ruthwismayer.com.
I will do my best to get back to you within 24 hours.
My first session
If you are a parent inquiring on behalf of your teenager, we would begin by arranging an initial phone call to discuss your concerns in more detail. If we then decide to proceed, I would invite your teenager to attend an initial assessment session on their own.
If you are a teenager or young adult looking for support, I would be happy to provide a free 30 minute online (or telephone) consultation with you.
