About me and my therapy practice
Hello, and welcome to my profile. Making the decision to see a counsellor can take an immense amount of courage - to acknowledge that you may need some help in talking through and making sense of some of the feelings or experiences causing you pain can feel a big step to take. There may be events, or even moments, that leave you fighting for breath. Feelings of shame or failure that you cannot seem to shift, or a sense of dread and foreboding, making everyday life a struggle. Perhaps the death of a loved one, conflict with family or friends, or a significant life change such as divorce or redundancy has caused you to feel off balance. This is where counselling may help.
I offer a safe, warm and empathetic environment, where together we can explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviours. I hold the belief that we all have the potential for change and growth, but sometimes this needs to be nurtured.
In-person, online and telephone therapy available.
I am an integrative counsellor, which means that whilst I offer person-centred therapy, I can also link how you are feeling in the here and now to your earlier experiences and relationships. This can help to make sense of what is going on for you right now, and that understanding can help you to become unstuck and move towards a more fulfilled life.
My office is based on a farm, just outside of Cobham, in Surrey. It's a comfortable and discrete environment, designed specifically to offer a therapeutic space. I love being in there - it feels so peaceful - and many others feel the same. There is plenty of space to ensure social distancing at all times and plenty of windows to keep the room well ventilated.. I leave enough time between sessions so that each client can be assured that the room has been thoroughly cleaned. There is off-road parking, as well as toilet facilities.
As we move forwards, beyond Covid-19, I will continue to offer remote counselling. This means that should things change - if one of us needs to self-isolate, or if there are further lockdowns - we can easily switch to online or telephone counselling. It also means that I can offer therapy to people who live further afield, or who may not otherwise be able to travel to the office.
My first session
Once you have contacted me, we can arrange for a 20 minute telephone consultation, which is free and without obligation. Here you will be able to tell me what's brought you to counselling and what help you hope to find. During this call I will assess whether or not I am the right person for you, and likewise, you can make a judgement about whether or not I am the right therapist for you. If we both decide to go ahead, we can arrange a time for our first full session - which will either be in-person or online/telephone. This first session will typically include me asking more direct questions to gain a little more understanding about you, with subsequent sessions being more open and led by your needs.
I offer both long-term, open-ended therapy, where we can regularly review the work, or short-term counselling, focusing on one or two specific issues. I will always respect your autonomy and we will go at a pace to suit you.
