About me and my therapy practice
I'm convinced that when we experience being met at a deeper level - and still understood and accepted - then change is inevitable; for, such an experience fosters the insight and courage we need to live connected and meaningfully within the messiness of real life. So, the way I work is to try to make the safe space where that can happen.
How I work
It’s important that you feel comfortable with and understand what happens in counselling. Here’s how I work:
- We meet for a free initial session. Here you get a chance to meet me, discuss what’s brought you to seek therapy - perhaps with a struggle or goal in mind - and ask any questions you have so that you can make an informed decision about working together.
- You get a regular, confidential space in which to talk about your life, your thoughts, your feelings. This is yours. For you.
- I won’t judge. I won’t dismiss. I won’t try to fix things for you. Instead, I will listen attentively to you, trying to understand what it is to live your life and offer this understanding back to you. I will help you to explore your life, thoughts and feelings, so that they begin to make more sense to you. And, I will challenge you when I suspect you’ve learned ways to sabotage yourself.
- This process will open up new ways forward and new possibilities. So, we will then help you to venture into these new and, often, scary futures, so that life works better for you.
This might all happen in one session, several sessions or over longer-term therapy. That choice is up to you and is something we can discuss at any point.
Training & Qualifications
I qualified with an MA in Counselling and have also worked in the care industry and in secondary education as a teacher, anger management trainer, mentor and group facilitator.
