About me and my therapy practice

Our sense of self is coloured by our early experiences and in many ways determines our adult choices, emotional reactions and internal dialogue. We absorb and adapt to the difficulties of our caregivers and circumstances, which are often filtered through previous generations of adversity. If this is your experience you may find yourself easily hijacked by strong emotions such as anger, fear, shame, anxiety or self-doubt; feeling easily rejected, judged or inadequate.

Perhaps you find yourself striving for an ideal that doesn't bring you wellbeing. Maybe the values, beliefs or expectations of your family or culture are at odds with your authentic identity, creating an inner conflict or 'double bind'. Perhaps you have learned to feed an external sense of self – your job, possessions, status - and have lost touch with who you really are. Perhaps you have learned to put others first to the detriment of yourself. Maybe you jump into romantic relationships too quickly and deeply – or have decided you are better off by yourself and yet part of you longs for connection. Perhaps living with underlying anxiety manifests as a physical response that affects your health.

Difficulties in living are not always about the past, and living with difficult family relationships, isolation, grief, loss, worry or prejudice can often leave you feeling anxious, stuck, depressed, shut down, disconnected or drained.

In our sessions together we will create a safe and confidential space to explore your experiences with compassion, acceptance and insight – to bring new perspectives and understandings that help you to reconnect with your authentic self, lifting the burden of grievance, unfairness and self-doubt, learning to trust your inner wisdom and sense of purpose, and to attune to your physical experience.

Practice description

Introductory sessions are 30 minutes long, and I don’t charge for these.  This is because I really understand how important finding the ‘right’ counsellor is, and I encourage potential new clients to shop around to find a therapist who feels right for them.

Sessions normally last for 60 minutes, though longer sessions can be booked by arrangement. I am currently only working online.

Online counselling is a little different to face-to-face counselling, but is by no means second best. It is a way for you to engage in counselling at a time, the place that suits you, and the pace of your counselling to suit your needs. Whatever your reason for choosing online therapy, please be reassured that research into online therapy finds it just as effective as face-to-face therapy - but it is a personal preference.

To book a free introductory session, please contact me by email or send me a text. Please let me know how you would like to be contacted to arrange your online appointment: a phone call, text or by email.

I am a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) which is the leading professional association for the counselling professions. I follow the BACP’s Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions.

I have completed online-therapy training and I also have certification with The Online Therapy Institute.

I hold professional liability insurance and am a member of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Disclosure Scotland scheme.

Online Counselling

Online counselling is a little different to in-person counselling but it is by no means second best. Research into online therapy finds it just as effective as face-to-face therapy, but it is a personal choice. Many people find the flexibility, convenience and comfort of being in their own space more relaxing, which can sometimes open up a deeper experience. Being able to take your therapist with you when you move or travel away from home ensures the continuity of the therapeutic relationship.
