About me and my therapy practice
I will meet with the parent/individual before the session explaining what I do and and if there are any questions. During this meeting I will find out information about the individual and why they are being referred to me.
I will get in touch with a school/college if the individual/parent/carer is happy for me to do so.
I work on a 1-1 between 40 mins - 1 hour
I keep record and write notes after each session, watching for patterns and what feelings are becoming apparent for the young person.
I have a therapy room in Tadcaster. This room has a small outside area partitioned off for privacy. In the room I have art mediums available. This includes clay and paints, other drawing tools, two sand trays and lots of miniatures for the sand as part of the sand play therapy.
I have puppets, a sensory table and masks and dressing up.
The individual talks through the mediums they use. Feelings and emotions eventually are expressed from the unconscious to the conscious, helping the individual feel healed with a certain aspect of themselves.
My first session
Within the first session, the young person will meet myself and be shown whats available in the room.
The therapy is person centered, so when the individual is ready, they can interact with what is available in their own way.
There is never any judgement or expectation made by myself the therapist. The individual is to feel their way and communicate in their own time.
The relationship with me as the therapist, is the important aspect of the therapy.
