About me and my therapy practiceUPDATE: Amid Covid-19 measures, I will be offering online/phone sessions via Skype, Zoom, FaceTime or telephone.
I have a warm, empathic style and see a broad range of clients in a GP surgery, universities and in private practice. Before this, I was a Samaritans helpline listener for 4 years, supporting people with suicidal feelings and I also worked for Samaritans during their research campaigns into male suicide. I have since worked with Mind supporting young care leavers. With 10 years of experience in journalism also, I'm attuned to the issues that creative professions can bring up. I write for The Guardian, The Independent, The Times and host a music & mental health podcast exploring the issues affecting musicians. Gestalt therapy raises awareness of yourself in the moment. I don't give advice but focus on getting to the crux of underlying feelings and what you want when you remove society's expectations from the equation. Where appropriate, I incorporate creative aspects like drawing, dream work and two-chair work, but go with what feels comfortable. Sessions can at times feel playful and creative, and other times more reflective with dialogue between us. My aim is not to interpret you or define who you are, but to support you to define yourself. I am actively involved in raising mental health awareness and have been featured in The Sun, Metro, Broadly, Refinery29 and The Debrief on issues related to depression, anxiety, intrusive thoughts/images, family and identity.
