About me and my therapy practice

Offering in person, online and telephone sessions.

I am a humanistic integrative counsellor recognising it is the quality of the relationship, rather than one particular orientation that is the most important aspect of successful therapeutic work. I have a background in education, specialising in social and communication difficulties, in particular autism. This experience alongside working for a low-cost counselling service has enabled me to work with a wide range of people. Some of my work involves working with loss and bereavement, relationship issues, feeling misunderstood, fear of the future and life stage transition. I feel passionately about developing an honest, genuine relationship where trust can be built and my clients feel respected so they feel safe to explore and open up new ways to be and to feel.

Providing counselling on a short or long term basis. This means you can choose to have counselling for as long as you require or choose a set amount of sessions with specific goals in mind.

I have special interests in:

Autism

Relationship difficulties

Life stages

Confidence and self-esteem

Loss

Anxiety

Practice description

The type of counselling I offer is one where the relationship between the client and counsellor is central to the sessions and where a greater understanding of your concerns can be achieved.

Working integratively drawing largely on person centred and psychodynamic theories. This means I am interested in how you understand your difficulties. I trust your innate wisdom and strengths and will try to provide the relational conditions for these to develop. It can be helpful to sometimes explore parts of the past and how these influence the present. I will be alongside you throughout our work, listening without judgement at the pace that feels right to you.

My first session

Once you have made contact with me, I will send you an information pack to complete and return. This is for you to provide your personal and medical details and reasons for seeking counselling. As soon as I receive this back I will invite you for a first appointment, known as an assessment session.

This session lasts up to 50 minutes. A number of things will be covered such as confidentiality and session timings. Your sessions will take place on the same day and time each week, unless agreed otherwise. During this time I will also ask you questions that will help me understand a little about you and your life before exploring more in following sessions. This session may feel different to following sessions with more questions and laying the foundation for how we will work together. Together we can identify what you hope to gain from counselling.
