About me and my therapy practice

I am a qualified integrative counsellor, specialising in working with children and young people. I am experienced in working with a wide range of emotional and behavioural difficulties. I offer a friendly, safe and non- judgmental space for children and adolescents to explore their feelings.

I completed a two-year BACP accredited Post Graduate Diploma training course with Place2Be (a leading provider of support for children’s mental health) and in collaboration with University of East London.

Prior to this, I taught music in primary schools for many years, having completed my undergraduate degree in music at the University of Hull. Through my work as a teacher, I have gained a strong understanding of the personal, social, emotional and educational concerns of young people.

I am a Registered Member of the BACP. I am fully insured and also registered with the Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) and hold an enhanced DBS check.

I am currently studying Gestalt Psychotherapy at the Metanoia Institute, Ealling, West London.

Practice description

While my approach to counselling is both creative and integrative in nature, I also draw on the strengths of various other counselling approaches including attachment theory, person centred, psychodynamic, systemic, and play therapy.

My practice is child-led and, with the use of verbal and non - verbal communication, creative materials and play, children and adolescents can work through and express their feelings. By ‘child led’, I refer to the fact that my sessions are at the child’s pace and tailored to each individual need. Together, we might look at early interactions and explore unconscious feelings, while also focusing on what’s going on in the present moment.

I understand that it can be extremely worrying for a parent to see a child suffering with their mental health. Taking the first step and making contact with a counsellor can be quite daunting. Often, having that ‘listening ear’ and someone to talk to can really lessen the weight of the load that they carry - not just for the child but for their parents too.

My first session

I offer an initial 15 minute chat on the telephone for which there is no charge. You will have the chance to learn more about how I work and ask any questions that you may have.

If you are interested in proceeding further, I can then carry out an assessment for up to 90 minutes for which I charge my standard fee of £60. I require parents to attend the assessment without their child.

After the assessment, we can have a further chat and decide together the way forward for your child.
