About me and my therapy practice
Welcome to Pure Thoughts. Firstly, let me tell you, that I have been where you are. Taking those first daunting steps towards changing your life; improving your world; becoming the person you long to be. It can feel overwhelming to start with, finding the right person to turn to. That is why I would urge you to find that inner strength we all have within. No matter how deeply hidden it may feel, I know you have the power to make that first step towards your new future.
How do I know this? I have experienced humanity at its rawest. I was a Police Officer for eleven years, and have seen the inner resilience we as human beings can find when the world is at its darkest. It was witnessing this inner power of the human spirit that lead me to becoming a counsellor. I longed to support others in their time of need, and as such I am here for you now.
Working together, we will explore what is troubling you; what is causing that feeling of dread or sadness, holding you back from living a happy and contented life. I will be with you while we look at those difficult experiences together, walking a journey towards experiencing life, the way you long to.
I have additional interests in Polyvagal Theory, which addresses the way our mind reacts to trauma and anxiety. This can be very helpful for living well after traumatic events that may have had a lasting negative effect on your life experience. Living with Fibromyalgia myself, I have a particular interest in body held trauma, which can be related to illnesses such as fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome and other debilitating illnesses. I know how hard it can be to live with these conditions and the impact they have on living our lives well, which can cause a feeling of bereavement for the person we once were.
Due to Covid-19 I am only working online at this present time. We will use Zoom, which is an encrypted service. My clients and I find that this still works well, so please do not be put off by the fact that currently we are not able to meet face-to-face.
My first session
Your first step towards a developing a new you, is to contact me, by phone or email if you prefer. We will then agree a time together where we can talk through why you would like to undertake counselling and I will outline the contractual requirements to which we will both work to. These are in place to protect you and myself. As a registered member of the British Association of Counsellors & Psychotherapists (BACP), I work in accordance with their Ethical Framework. This initial meeting will be either by Zoom or by phone. It’s your opportunity to ask any questions and for us to get to know each other a little, before our counselling sessions formally begin.
